The Pen 11 THE SAINTS IN SPORTSLAND Wili-iaxM Goosby The Saint Augustine’s Horses are at this time well on the road to suc cess for this season, commencing its season with a decisive victory, 62-34, over the Fort Bragg quintet on December 19, 1942. The Saints, however, proved their ability to play basketball on Satur day, January 2, when they met their first CIAA opponent—the Shaw University Bears. The Bears entered the game with the intention of avenging themselves of a 1942 de feat, but the Saint’s who are equal ly as anxious to distinguish them selves this year in the CIAA, dis played a fine quality of basketball that resulted in another decisive victory for them by a score of 72-30. The Saints team as well as many others are suffering from the lack of manpower, but Coach McStall- worth has been able to weld his supporters — Winfield Ashby, Joe Gordon, Howard Pullen, Oliver Morse, William Fax, William Mc Kinney, Joe Saunders, Theodore Johnson, Maurice Beckles, Brad ford Marshall—into an effective and skilled team. Tlie Saints are scheduled to meet several other CIAA teams this sea son, including iSTorth Carolina State, St. Paul, Hampton, A. «fe T., and Lincoln University. Congratulations, boys, on your past showings for this season and onward to a 1942-1943 CIAA cham pionship.
