Miss Saint Augustine’s College 1995-96 Crowned
"This has been an interesting experience. I would like to thank all of those
persons who helped to make this memorable day possible, ” Rashima Brooks,
Miss Saint Augustine's College 1995-96,,
by Dawn Randolph
. November 11,1995 marked the 38tli Annual Coronation of Miss Saint Augustine’s College.
Despite the wet and cold outdoors on that Saturday evening, the inside of the beautifully decorated
Emery Gymnasium prepared a royal entrance for the crowning of Miss Rashima Danielle Brooks,
Miss Saint Augustine's College 1995-96.
The theme “An Evening of Majestic Elegance” was more than appropriate for this special
event, as a parade of more than twenty different campus organizational queens and their escorts
paved the way, dressed in beautiful apparel.
Commentators Dawn Randolph and Devron Benjamin had set the tone for the formal setting,
as honorary guests President and Mrs. Bernard Franklin, and Dr. and Mrs. Gaddis Faulcon, were
among many who graced the occasion in celebration of such an unforgettable event.
Also in attendance were visiting queens Miss Shaw University, Miss Teenage World, and
Miss. Wake County.
Following tradition, Natasha Hewlett, the college queen of the previous school year, returned
to give an exiting speech, after which she proudly made her final walk as Miss Saint Augustine’s
College 1994-1995. In ending her speech, Hewlett, through song, encouraged Brooks in her new
endeavor.
In giving her acceptance speech, Rashima Brooks dedicated her throne to the many -
administrators, faculty members, and friends at Saint Augustine’s College who, she said, because
of their support, needed to be recognized.
