I trust that you will receive full support in keeping, as your tradition demands, your enlarged work genuine and worthy in every respect. Very sincerely yours, J. H. Dillakd. FROM THE REV. DR. A, B. HUNTER Honorary President My dear Mr. Goold: I rejoice with you in that 1. St. Augustine’s School has become St. Augus tine’s College. The growth of Negro education has crowded the High School grades and made it necessary that you should provide a college educa tion for those who have completed the High School grades. 2. In 1930 you erected four large substantial buildings, dining-room, dormitory, library and nurses’s home, increasing the facilities of the col lege and adding to the beauty of the campus. 3. In the first year of your full college course, you have already enrolled in the college course 158 students. 4. Tlie Department of Public Instruction of the State of North Carolina, after due examina- tioti of St. Augustine’s College, has given it a rating in Grade “A”. May the child who bears the name of the great St. Augustine, of Hippo, lead the rest of its life according to this beginning. A. B. IIUNTEK, Honorary President. FROM DR. H. G. ATKINS I’rcsldont *>f the Winston-Salem Tcachers’ College (A Graduate ot St. Augustine’s) St. Augustine’s recent achievements are in the realm of my dream, and the dream of many of her gradmites, a number of whom have gone home to their eternal rcsward. We dreamed for college standing for our Alma Alater, and pleaded with the Trustees through a period of years that every thing should be done possible to bring the institu tion up to the college level. No doubt, our ap peals were heard sympathetically, and are even these days bearing the fruit which was the desire of our hearts in those days. We do sincerely congratulate President Goold and we do not overlook the contribution which Dr. and Mrs. Hunter made to the achievements of these days, because, of course, they laid the foun dations broad and deep. Yes, indeed, I rejoice with St. Augustine’s children and grandchildren who are now joining in the great rejoicing which we all have for this new day at the old school, about which I have long prayed and dreamed. Although many died without the sight, we, who live, can take courage as we extend our greetings and grateful appreciation to those who have been most active in bringing this new day to pass. Yours very sincerely, S. G. Atkins, President. HUBERT T. DELANY, Esq. Assistant United States Attorney (A Graduate of St. Augustine’s) New York, January 19, 1931. Reverend Edgar H. Goold, President, St. Augustine’s College, Raleigh, N. C. My dear Mr. Goold: A few, days ago I read with a great deal of interest about the new rating that St. Augustine’s College Department has been given by the Depart ment of Public Instruction of North Carolina. Knowing as I do the standards that the Depart ment of Public Instruction requires before giving a college a grade A rating, I feel that it is quite fitting that both the students and alumni of St. Augustine’s ought to be justly proud of this ad vancement of St. Augustine’s in the field of higher education. I am stire that many others of the alumni have the same feeling of nearness to St. Augustine’s that I have, and are equally as proud of this recent advancement in the field of higher educa tion. Sincerely, Hubert T. Dklany, Assistant United States Attorney. FROM MRS. ANNIE FENNELIi BLACK Rocky Mount, N. C. (A Graduate of St. Augustine’s) The recent announcement of St. Augustine’s new rating made me very happy indeed and I want to congratulate you and your co-workers who have worked so hard to make this possible.
