ALUMNI NEWS
The St. Augustine’s Record plans to give in its
columns, from time to time, brief biographical
sketches of many of its living alumni. The material
will be taken from circulars that were sent to all
graduates. If you have not received a circular send

George H. Williams, ’82, Fayetteville, C.,
lias the (listiiictioii of being the oldjest living
alnmims of St. Augustine’s, according to our
records. lie graduated from tlieliigli seliool depart
ment in 1870 and the collegiate department 1882.
Simon G. Atkins, ’84, A.M., LL.D., President
of Teachers College, Winston-Salem, 1ST. C., always
finds time to make at least an annual visit to our
campus. Francis L. Atkins, his son, was elected
I’resident of the N. C. Negro College Association
which met here last month.
Mrs. Nannie James Logan Delany, ’85, widow
of the late lit. Kev. II. B. Delany, and for many
years school matron, resides now in New York
City. Delany Building, the college girls dormi
tory, is named in her honor.
IMrs. Ophelia T. (iriffin, ’01, and Prof. Alfred
J. Griffin, ’92, are located in High Point, N. C.
Several of their children have attended school here.
Kev. John R. Brooks, ’02, has filled charges in
Maryland,Virginia, (ieorgia and Alabama. He is
now located at the Church of the Redeemer, East
St. Louis, 111. and St. Michael’s Church, Cairo, HI.
Rev. John Brown Elliott, ’97, D.D., is an Arch
deacon of the Diocese of U])per South Carolina.
He is always in attendance at the Conference for
(ylergy and Church Workers held annually at the
end of the school year. He can bo reached through
General Delivery, Columbia, S. C.
Thaddeus P. Martin, ’98, M.D., has just taken
uj) his new residence at 102G Buchanan Street,
Topeka, Kansas. Dr. Martin returned to the
caminis to witness the graduation of his daughter,
Mvs. (Jhidys E. Hoover, from the Bishop Tuttle
'I'raining School iu 1928. His son is a lay reader
in St. Simon’s Church in Topeka.
Uev. Milton Moran Weston, ’99, Ph.B., B.D.,
has his oldest daughter, Catherine C’ornelia Wes
ton, in attendance at tlie Bisho]) Tuttle School in
the senior class. His son, Milton, ’28, will com-
plete his work at the Philadeljdiia Divinity School
next Jiuie. Rev. ^Ir. Weston is Rector of St.
Luke’s (Church in Tarboro, N. C.
Rev. Samuel W. (Jrice, ’01, and ]Mrs. Susan M.
Rhone (Jrice, ’01, liave graduated two of their
cliildr(‘n from St. Augustine’s. Rev. Mr. (Jrice is
a trustee of St. Augustine’s (Allege. For twenty-
one years he was Warden of the Bishoj) Payne
Divinity School, Petersburg, Va. At present he is
Vicar of St. (\yprian’s Church in New York City.
John Magnus Pollard, ’01, is Director of the
Niagara Comnuniity Center, Niagara Falls, N. Y.
He makes his home at 66 Garrow St., Auburn,N.Y.
William Augustine Perry, ’02, is the author and
composer of St. Augustine’s College hymn. It was
dedicated when St. Augustine’s became a four-year
standard college and is sung by the student body
on special religious festival holidays and the an
nual commencement.
Mrs. Mary Ada Jackson Perry, ’02, wife of
Rev. Robert N. Perry, of Thomasville, (xa., has
two of her children in attendance here at the col
lege. AVilliam ^L, ’32, graduated last year. Alice
Louise, ’34, entered this year’s junior class after
finishing the Junior Collega at Fort Valley School.
John Logan, ’36, entered the freshman class.
Rev. John W. Herritage, ’05, D.D., Rector of
St. Joseph’s Church, Fayetteville, N. C., is presi
dent of the Alumni Association of St. Augustine’s
College. He is an associate member of the depart
ment of Religious Education, Diocese of East
Carolina, and president of the conference of
Colored Church Workers, Province of Sewanee,
1025-1028. His son, John W., Jr., ’32, is a fresh
man in the Meharry Medical School. His daugh
ter, Effie Irene, ’33, is a member of this year’s
senior college class.
Ada Speight, ’05, returned to the campus and
took the course of Social Work at the Bishop
Tuttle School. She completed her work with the
class of 1932 and is now in social service at St.
Philip’s mission, Hawkinsville, Ga.
Mrs. Edna Paul Pearson, ’05, ie a teacher in the
Dean Street School, Spartanburg, S. C. She is an
active worker in the Epiphany Mission Church
whose Rector is Rev. James B. Brown.
Rev. Robert Josiah Johnson, ’06, D.D., is Priest-
in-charge of St. Mary’s Church, Hot Springs
National Park, Ark. His oldest son llobert Albert,
’35, is a varsity member of the football, basketball
and tennis teams. This year’s freshman class was
augmented by another sou »Iames Edward, 36,
and Jerome (Jarduer, a friend from Arkansas.
Rev. James King Satterwhite, ’06, is Rector of
St. Elizabeth’s Church, La Grange, (ia. He has
formerly held charges in Raleigh, N. C.; Greens
boro, N. C.; Winston-Salem, N. C.; Jacksonville,
Fla.; Okolona, Miss., and Detroit, ^lich.
Nellie Andrews Ligon, ’06, is now located at
1750 (\‘dar Ave., ('ollege IHll, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mrs. Susan :Mabel James Perry, ’08, is the wife
of Wm. A. Perry, ’02. Her oldest daughter, ]VIabel
Elizabeth, is a senior in the Bishop Tuttle School
for Social Workers. Mrs. Perry is an active work
er in St. Luke’s Church, Columbia, S. C. The
