Dorothy Scott, of Savannah, Ga., represented the College Preparatory Department graduating class, and Lloyd II. Davis, of Cullowhee, N. C., the College Department graduates, w'ith speeches. Edith E. Chisholm, of Charleston, S. C., spoke for the Bishop Tuttle School graduates. “The Emergency Kit in the Home,” a striking demon stration, was presented by W. Lucille Zimmerman, of Anderson, S. C., and Ethel L. Wright, of Mor- gaiiton, N. C., two of the graduates of St. Agnes Training School for Nurses. The Choral Club rendered several selections, including the spiritual, “No Hidin’ Place.” The following prizes and awards were an nounced: The Dr. Milton A. Barber oratorical award of ten dollars for a student of the College, to James A. Johnson, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Omega Psi Phi prize of ten dollars to the fresh man best exemplifying the fraternity’s principles, to Matthew W. Jones, of Spartanburg, S. C.; High School Declamation Contest Winners: Amanda (iates, of Coldwater, ^lichigan, and St. Julian Simpkins, Jr., of Pineville, S. C., a class banner each; Choral Club awards for faithful and outstanding performance, and for most improve ment, to Marion Davis, of Raleigh, and Charles Johnson, of New Bern, N. C., respectively. The degree of Bachelor of Arts was conferred upon 24 candidates, and the Bachelor of Science degree on six. Four graduates received the certifi cate from the Bishop Tuttle School, and nine; nurses were graduatwl. Twelve graduates of the College Preparatory Department received certifi cates. Rev. John II. Johnson, able young vicar of St. ^lartin’s Church, New York, was the preacher at the Baccalaureate service. “There are three things about St. Augustine’s which particularly impress me,” said Rev. John II. Johnson, vicar of St. ilartin’s Church, New York, who was the baccalaureate preacher at the local college’s commencement exercises. “First, the growth in size and beauty of the plant. Nino years ago when I was last here it was not nearly so impressive. Another thing is the quality of the student body. It impresses me as being alert, responsive, and unusually courteous. Finally, the air of harmony among the members of the staff, both white and colored, is something I had heard of but never seen.”—From the Raleigh Xews and Ohserrer.
