Mary Clifton, ’36, is employed on a WPA re
search project under the auspices of the Y.W.C.A.
of Montclair, N. J. Mrs. Amanda Freeman Garris
and John Perry, of the same class, are doing re
creation work in Raleigh.
John J. Hannibal, ’36, is a medical student at
Meharry, where he joined a colony of five or six
recent graduates oi' St. Augustine’s, including
Howard Henderson, Arnold Joseph, Humphrey
Bond, John W. Herritage, Jr., and Eric Clarke.

Leo. L. Oxley, ’35, has entered the Law School
of Howard University. Alma Herndon, ’34, has
been appointed to the faculty of Washington High
School, Raleigh.

Harriet Eoyce, ’18, in Burgaw, N. C., on July 28.
She was the eldest daughter of Dean Charles H.
Boyer.

Dr. Edson (i. Blackman, ’14, president of the
Alumni Association, made an address at the form
al opening exercises in September. The eldest son
of Dr. Blackman, Edson, Jr., is a member of this
year’s freshman class.
On the Saturday evening radio programs of the
Hampton Institute musical organizations Charles
Flax, ’27, has been the soloist. Mr. Flax made an
enviable record last year at the Eastman School
of Music, Rochester, New York. He was featured
there also as a baritone soloist.
Rev. Hravid W. Harris, ’17, rector of (irace
(^hurch, Norfolk, Va., recently made a radio ad
dress in Raleigh, in connection with a “Negro
Achievement AVc'ok” program, s])onsored by the
Omega I’si Phi fraternity, of which he is a mem
ber.
Noted among those attending the Atlanta con
ference were. Rev. and Mrs. St. Julian Simpkins,
Rev. Eugene Avery, and Mrs. Oscar Holder, all
alumni of St. Augustine’s.
Among those elected to office at the Conference
of Chui’ch Workers in the Province of Sewanee
were. Rev. James K. Satterwhite, ’06, vice-presi-
dent, and Rev. H. J. C. Bow'den, ’21, secretary.
Rev. John E. Culmer was re-elected president.
Frank K. Davis, Robert B. Sullivan, Lawrence
Scales, Edna Baker and Emma Perry, all of the
class of 1936, are attending the Bishop Tuttle
School.
Yera (iang, ’35, Bishop Tuttle, ’36, and Helen
Harris, ’35, are in the graduate school of Boston
University. Miss Ciang was admitted with ad
vanced standing, in consideration of her credits
from Bishop Tuttle School. Miss Harris writes;
“1 have just received word of passing the language
requirements for my degree, and have been admit
ted on my credentials (St. Augustine’s College
transcript) without deficiencies.”

.John C. Davis, ’32, who was graduated last
Alay from Bishop Payne Divinity School, was
ordained deacon in September by Bishop Gribbin,
of the diocese of Western North Carolina. The
service was held in St. Alatthias’ Church, Ashe
ville, where the Rev. Air. Davis is in charge. Louis
Baskervill, II. S. ’27, has been ordained deacon
and is at work in the diocese of South Carolina,
with his father, Archdeacon Baskervill. He is a
graduate of Lincoln and of the Philadelphia
Divinity School.
Dr. William Pickens, an official of the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored
People, and a famous lecturer, addressed the
Assembly on November 23d. Other Assembly
speakers have been. Rev. . Randolph Johnson,

Lucille Zimmernmn, description of a Caribbean
Cruise; Rev. George A. Fisher, “Why the Negro
Should Veto”; Prof. Arthur A. Allen, “Bird Life

Roberts and Frank Perry, a report of the Kings
Alountain Student Conference. Air. Johnson is
Adviser on Negro Affairs in the North Carolina
Department of Public Welfare. Aliss Zimmernuin
is a member of the staff of St. Agnes Hospital,
and the Rev. Air. Fisher is rector of St. Ambrose
Church, Raleigh. Dr. Allen is professor of Orni
thology in Cornell University. Aliss Roberts and
Air. Perry are students at St. Augustine’s.
