At the meeting of th(' Alumni Association committees
were appointed to make a study of the problem of expansion
of the college curricnlum and to work out ways of lielpins
to imiirove the jihysical education and athletics jirojiram.

received of the ordination of Jlr. .lohnson to th(> diaconate
on May 21. The oi-dination service was held in St. (’yprian’s
(’liurch. New Hern, X. ('., of which the Kev. U. I. .lohnson,
father of the ordinand, is rector, and was conducted b,y
Hishop Thomas ('. Darst, of the Diocese of East Carolina.
Jlr. Fulford was awarded the prize for the best three-
.veai' avera};e in English Bible courses.

of the staff of the Lakin State Hospital, Ijakin, W. Va. He
was graduated from IJncoln Universit.v in and ]\Ieharry
JI(‘dical College in 1!).’{7. In St. Louis (Mt.v Hospital, where
he servc'd as int(‘rn(> and resident physician, he specializ(‘d
in neurology and ps.vchiatr.v. He is the son of Dr. Herbert

Miss Lcmise JIaywood I.atham, ’22, has accepted a position
at Howanl Universit.v as ‘ducational and social director on
the stall' of the dean of women. She has for s(*veral years
servc'd as dean of girls and teacher of social science in
AVashington High School, Uah'igh, and was for some time
junior counsellor in the U. S. Employnu'iit Service at Dur-
Inim, X. C.

by the (iovernor of North Carolina and State and WI’A

classes was put on public display.

Mr. Young attended St. Augustine’s and later taught printing

Alphonso I.. Finch. ':!2. principal of the high school at
Dittleton, N. with a group of singers and several members
of his faculty, visited St. Augustine’s on a recent Sunday.
The whole group attended chapel servic-es, tlie singers after-
wiird jiresenting musical numbers in the Cheshire Building.
They were lieard later in a broadcast over Station WI'TF. In

Bureau of the Virginia Department of Public Welfai-e. with
ollices in Uichmond. Her work cmsists of supervising delin-
inent children placeI in boarding homes thrcmgh juvenile
courts throughout the State. Miss Carey attended the Penn-
.sylvania School of SH'ial Work after her graduation fnmi
St. Augustine's.

Agness B. Middleton, ’:>8, has won a scholarship offereil
by the National Tuberculosis Association for summer study
at the Universit.v of Michigan. Miss Jliddleton. until re
cently director of the Nurse Training School of St. Agnes
Hospital, was a r>gisteit“l nurse when she enrolled at St.
Augustine’s and had bwn a member of the staft' of St. Louis
(■eneral Hospital, where she trained. At iiresent slie is

The UKcoiin received with jirofound sadness a report of
the death on Jlay 22 of Dr. .lulio A. Petioni. who completed
the pre-medical course here in 10.'!4. and was graduated with
the M.D. from Meharry Medical (’ollege in lO.'SO. Dr. Peti(mi
succumbed in Provident Hospital. Baltimore, where he was
serving his interneship. to an illness with wliich he had been
alllicted for years, as those who knew him at St. Augustine’s
will r(>call. He .showed remarkable fortitude and cheerful
ness under his handicap, and won the admiration of all who
knew him when he sucreeded in cimipleting the c(mrse of
edut’ation which he had mappeil out for himself. Our con
dolences are extended to his bereaved family.
