t)ecember lb, I960 North Carolina Wesleyan DEAR EDITOR: For quite some time people have been leaving trash and bottles on the tables in the lunch room. ¥e have a sufficient number of waste cans in there to take care of all the trash that we may accumulate during the hours when people are eating so tha'k no-one is forced to leave trash. We have a new school, and we should all be proud enough of it to take care of it in every way so that others may be as proud of it as we are. Accepting reponsibility is the essence of maturity, but the freshman class seems to still be in its first childhood. While we all wish to be like one big, happy family, it seems we have forgotten how to clean up after ourselves. It takes only a few steps to walk from the tables .in the lunchbar to the trash cans provided for us to dispose of our trash m.aterial. Likewise, ash trays and smokeatanda are provi ded for those who smoke to dis pose of their cigarettes. We have designated only one hour of our school week for wor ship, and yet we have not sincer- ly dedicated this hour to Jod, Our response to.God should'be one of respect and silence as we entc Chapel each Tuesday morning. The respectful silence that should be followed- when entering , Chapel on Tuesday mornings is a duty that should be a pleasure for each Wesleyan freshman. a What would you do if you got a Jacicish for Christmas? With mistletoe used as Christman deco ration nearly everyone receives a Jacicish for Christmas. A Jaci cish is a kiss and a hug. Dr. Vi/illiam Sasser, Director of Music, answered in the Christ mas spirit when he said, "Stuff it in the Christmas turkey.” Generosity of one sort or an other appeared 'in many replies, Patsy Matthews answered, ^'Give it. to someone else. Jane Smith said '^Give it to North Carolina V/esleyan," and Faye Simpson said, ’’I'd give it to Dr. Harv/ood.” Mr. W. Jasper Smith, Comptroller , would "Present it to Mr. Collins.” John Alden and Henry Sanders had a different thought. John said, ”I'd kill the guy that gave it to me,” and Henry would ”Give it to someone I didn't like.” The intellectual atm.os phere also appeared in the replies. ”I'd read it, answered President Thomas: Collins. Susan Black wDuld inspect it and Dr. .Archibald Sharer, Professor of Biology and Natural Science, would put it in a cage. Mrs. Eltanor Wilkinson, Instr uctor of Mathematics, quite nat urally replied, ”I'd scream!” Vann Massey would "Go back for more,” and Omar Hamad said ''I'll take it.” Mrs. John Hardy, Manager of tte Snack Bar, said "I'm going to give it to Lillie Mae Delamar. If she doesn't know what to do with it, no one does.”
