January 19, 1961 NORTH CAROLINA VffiSLEIAN Everyone looks, forward to exam.. time with anxious eyes, but after that cones a chance to relax for a few days. Mid-semester break cones at the wrong time for those who want to go to -the seaside or to the uountains, yet some V/esleyan stu dents are planning trips to diff erent places of interest. Donna Ramey, Patsy Warren, and Henry Sanders are going to spend a few days visiting George Mar shall in Fall Church, Virginia. John Alden is going to Bethel with Jerry Chesson. Later they may go to Norfolk, Virginia, to join Ervin Cullipher and then go to Washington, D.C. In Washington they m^ run into Jane Smith and Margaret Walters who are planning to spend the va cation there with Margaret's two sisters. Wanda Exum is planning to go to Carolyn Moore's home in Nor folk, Virginia. Reggie V/ester won't return to Wesleyan. He is getting married January 29. & Joan Lamberth, Betty /'.nderson, Larry Matthews, Vann Massey, and Miss Lois' Collins, Director of Admissions, represented V/esleyan College on television station WINT, January 14. On- the program, Hospitality House, the group discussed the student government, publications, social life, sports and Music De partment of the college. NEWS IN BRIEF The North Carolina String Quartet presented the third con cert at the college on Tuesday; January 14, 1961. The Quartet, composed of Edgar Alden, violin; Jean Heard, violin; Dorothy Alden, viola; and Mary Grey Clarke, vio loncello, performed works from the music of- Baccherine, Beethoven, and Ravel, The concert was spon sored by the Music Department of Wesleyan College and the Rocky Mount Art Center, Inc. The Jeffrey Ballet Company and Orchestra will perform January 31, as a part of the Community Concert Association to which all students of-the College belong. February 14, Nancy Nelson, pianist, v/ill perform e.t the college as a part of the Concert Series. The Senior High Boys beat the Benvenue Bunch, Wednesday, Janu - ary 4, for first place in Wesley an intramural football. The neiet Monday the Senior High Boys fin ished the schedule by defeating the Untouchables. The Senior High Boys team is compsed of: Omar Hamad, Tommy- Adkins, Ed Schultz, Andy Neville, Ken Smith, J'nsel Malcom, and Bill MacDonald. H> Francis Eason of South Kills participated in the program of the Rocky Mount Music Review Club Thursday, January 12. The theme of the meeting v/as Domenic.-o Scap latti, an Italian conposer of the early 1700's. Francis played two of Scarlotti’s sonatas.
