TEAM NAME
”In spring a young man's fancy
lightly turns to thoughts of ..."
BASEBALL, what else?
This spring Wesleyan College
will have-an intercollegiate base
ball team, a team with unifor:-.'s,
equipment and spirit, yet a texm
still v/ithout a name, /fter the
tec^ms are named, names for the
publications, classgs, and dorms
csn be chosen to tie in with that
name.
Often the names for-teams comc
from the location of the school,
profession of the namesake, or
hobby of the namesake among other
things. Wesleyan College is lo
cated in tobacco country, and is
named for John and Charles Wesley
who were instrumental in founding
the Methodist Church. Do these
ideas suggest any names?
Suggestions for the nickname
of the college and corresponding
names for the others may be turn
ed into the Publications Room in
the box provided so that the team
will have a name by its first
game, March 13. Think!

The Community Council of V/es-
leyan College held its first meet
ing February 22, which proved to
be an organizational meeting for
the group. Gary Garlow was chosen
to serve as Chairman, Dr. Willard
Gatewood, Vice-Chairman, and Susan
Black, Secretary. The Council
also chose Monday at 12 o'clock
for its regular meeting.
The Community Council idea
which is new to colleges, is based
upon confidence and trust and it
will try to est-blish the ’’Wesleys
an Community through fidelity .
service, and integrity." As a
group independent of the Student
Government /ssociation and com
posed of representatives from the
student body, faculty, and staff,
the Council has power to counsel
and investigate any area of the
Wesleyan Community. Although it
has no pov/er to enforce them, it
is hoped its recommendations will
be heeded.
Anyone v/ho would like to pre
sent a matter before the Council
should first see Gary Garlow, A
matter presented to the Council
will be kept in confidential fiJes,
and reports and recommendations
will be given only upon approval
of the Council.
The Community Council program
does not list those things v/hich
must not be done. It presents a
Bill of Rights to the Community
with expectations of and for the
members of the Community.
