Vann Massey and Coach Bauer, as the “competent officials,” re ferred the big game. Coach, why did you stand on the saw-horse? So you could see those beautiful plays by President Col lins and Mr. Sherron? Although the faculty team played exceptionally well for men rather advanced in age, they were whip ped by the younger team. The faculty could have easily won the first game, however, if the Dean had showed up on time. By the way. Dean Moore was especially nice looking in his T- shirt and tennis shorts! Col. Hall, too! The enthusiastic crowd was thrill ed by the spiking efforts of the 6’6” faculty star, Carl Helwig, who was cheered on by the shouts of “Come on, Baby!” from Dr. Hailey, and “Hit it, Honey! ” from Mr. Gay. It was an exciting game—one well worth getting up early to see! I Intramurals Thursday, October 19, marked the renewal of keen competition and hotly contested intramural games. Renewed also is a competi tive spirit which is a prominent part of our growing college com munity. Wesleyan’s lirst year saw the beginnings of an intramural program. This year will see the de velopment of that program. Dr. Bauer, athletic director, has formulated an intramuial program based on the students’ need to de velop both physically and academi cally. This program consists of a series of team sports, basketball being the first, which will extend throughout the year. To compete in this intramural program, five teams were formed. Each team will be graded by a point system based on their per formance. Captains for the five teams are: first team, Jerry Chesson; second team, Linwood Joyner; third team, Larry Matthews; fourth team, John Alden; fifth team, Ervin CuUipher. HOUSE MOTHERS By JOAN LIFTIN House mothers are a clan apart; They bear no traces of a heart. They wait till you’re a minute late. Then gleefully they close the gate. They seem in some way fiendish- bent; They chortle when they ask for rent. Some day, to spite the darned old bears, I think I’ll bring a man upstairs.
