Proceed With Caution
These are dangerous times for you, Wesleyan student.
There is an organized movement underfoot that begins
April 12 and continues through May 15. As an active stu
dent on campus you are advised to proceed with extreme
caution during this period.
Beware the Elections Committee; they will try devious
ways and means to make you aware of the impending
Spring Student Body Elections for class and S.G.A. offi
cers. Don’t let them trap you into stopping to consider
possible candidates. If they get you thinking, you’re lost
to begin with. The trick is to outsmart them. Don’t stop
fighting until the bell rings May 15.
When you get up Thursday morning, April 12, go back
to bed. Don’t even go to classes. This is likely to be a
rough day. But if you do forget and happen to stroll
through the Administration Building, don’t look at the
bulletin board. If you do, you’ll see a list posted of all
those students who are eligible to become class officers
or to hold positions in the Student Government Association.
If you succeed in avoiding this list, you’ll have it kriock-
ed because you can always say that you can’t nominate
anyone on April 17 for the simple reason that you don t
know who’s eligible to run.
In case this little bit of strategy is anticipated and you
end up in Assem'bly anyway—be nonchalant! Don t listen
to the speaker because if you do he will have succeeded
in letting you know that he is opening nominations from
the floor for the principal officers of the S.G.A.—Presi
dent, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chaiman of
the Student Life Association. Once you have sunk into this
fatal attentiveness you might as well listen to the rest of
the agonizing speech. He will continue to tell you that if
these nominations exceed three, a plurality elimination vote
shall be held which will limit the number of candidates
to three. On April 27 the Student Body will vote by secret
ballot for these offices. You’ll want to miss it. In case no
person receives a majority of votes, a run-off election will
be held on Monday, April 30. Make a note of these dates
because you, my friend, are going to torget to vote!
When Assembly is over, quickly leave. Make sure you
engage in no conversations or debates on the qualifications
of the different candidates. Don’t take sides. Maintain your
indifferent attitude. Always remember to play it cool.
Plan ahead of time for another skirmish with the enemy
on Tuesday, May 1, when the nominations for the Chair
men of the Commissions—Athletic, Social, Publications,
Inter-Faith, shall be made. Smile, whistle, hum — do any
thing but listen. If you do it will be explained that if the
nominations exceed three, or after the plurality vote a
majority vote will be taken and the person with the ma
jority of votes will be elected.
For heaven’s sake try not to understand what is going
on! This will be a triumph for the enemy. After all they
planned this for a little recreation for themselves since
they have nothing else to do.
Don't loosen up a bit because: you’re not safe yet. On
Tuesday, May 8, nominations w'ill be held for Class Offi
cers in a class meeting. The manner of nominations will be
determined by the individual classes. The election of Class
Officers will be on the Monday following the day of nomi
nations which will be May 14.
On the following Tuesday, May 15, they will be at it
again. The classes will elect one representative each to the
Athletic and Social Comimissions. The manner of their elec
tion is to be determined by the classes but of course you
had nothing to do with it.
If you can come out of this ordeal not having voted,
your conscience will be clean. The responsibility for elect
ing these officers will not have rested on your shoulders,
no sir-ree! This is the time to start your campaign on the
irresponsible student leaders.
Qualifications Listed
There will be a transition o>f offi
cers in the Spring Elections this
year. In the past two years basical
ly the same students have held SGA
offices.
We all know th;it electing officers
is a serious business. One of the
main reasons for early elections
;s to give the outgoing administra
tion an opportionity to work with
the new officers. Since a student
may liold only one oftlce at a time,
the chain of elections has been set
up in relative order of iposition so
.hat cand dates running foir top
positions, who are not elected, may
run in subsequent elections.
This year since there will be this
major change-over, it is important
ifor every student to give careful
consideration to Ihe required eli
gible candidates for office. The fol
lowing, issued by the Elections
Committee, are the required quali
fications for students running for

Letter To The Editor
Dear Editor,
Three clieers to the Community
Council and Student Government
Association for holding the qpen
meeting last week for residents of
the Women’s Dorm.
At last we are seeing proof of the
Wesleyan spirit of action, and even
more important we have been given
an opportunity to prove to the
community that we are mature and
responsible students, able to govern
and discipline ourselves w'ith fresh
attitudes and enthusiasm.
This is what we have been fight
ing for, collectively and as indi
viduals. This is what we will achieve
as responsible young adults!

On School Emblem
According to Walter White, treas
urer of the Freshman Class, the
project committee is waiting for
a reply from the company on the
possibilities of priniting a cloth
patch before the end of this se
mester. The exact pattern of the
emblem hasn’t been decided uipon
as yet, but it will contain the
school’s new mascot, the Wesleyan
B'sliqp. The style will be similar to
that of the official school emiblem
of John and Charles Wesley.
