Wesleyan Girls Win In Beauty Pageant ERVENE BOYD . Miss Rocky Mount of 1964 . . . Miss Ervene Boyd, Wesleyan freshman, was named “Miss Rocky Mount” in the April 19 pageant sponsored by the Rocky Mount Junior Chamber of Com merce, and Miss Cindy Belcher was first runner-up. Cindy is also a freshman at the college, and she is originally from Nor folk, Va., Ervene is from Ra leigh. Ervene chose a costume of black sequined tights, and per formed a modem jazz dance to “Walk on the Wild Side.” Dressed casually in slacks with a tam on her head, Cindy ex hibited some of her art work. She portrayed in words and painting her impression of “Jazz in the Big City” with the ac companiment of a Dave Bru- beck jazz composition. For her appearance in even ing wear, Ervene wore a white sheath gown. She gave the pois ed and assured stateliness of a real queen. Her poise was evi dent also when she walked down the ramp in a bathing (suit. Cindy wore a bell-shaped or semi-sheath white gown. Her blond loveliness was perfectly set off by her gown. In the “Miss Rocky Mount” beauty pageant points are given to the individual candidates ac cording to various criteria in stead of dividing the pageant into the three regular divisions. Ervene accumulated the high est number of points of any contestant in the contcst, quali fying her for the crown. Cindy was next liighest, and she was awarded the first runner-up position.
