Hot News On Campus 7 “You have just burned the only book on campus doesn’t have to be read.” Yearbook! A yearbook or annual is sup posed to be an orderly, well thought out scrapbook contain ing pictures and comments which bring back numerous memories of the past year. Last week we received what was “loudly” acclaimed to be the best annual that Wesleyan has produced. The DISSENTER even went several hundred dollars in debt and took five extra months to gather the mater ial for this book. In August, I was talking to a Wesleyan graduate who said that he had to come back to finish the printing of several hundred pictures for use In the annual. At this time, I took it for granted that all the articles and copy had been finished. All that seemed to be lacking was the pictures. But lo and behold (!) when the annual arrived there was little ■ descriptive writing lu speak of- nothing but pictures! It is to be understood that this is not a criticism of the present staff, for under last year’s system not much respon sibility was delegated. However, to clarify things, I, as well as many others. I’m sure, do not particularly want to see this type of “folly” occur again. So, before anyone associated with the annual staff decides to “tar and feather” me— just think—don’t we have a legiti mate gripe? However, I might add that the annual staff this year will be ready to send in the first sec tion at the end of the month. Keep up the good workt November 1st and 2nd the Rules Committee for the Spring, Chris tmas, and Valentine Courts Pro cedures met to suggest, dis cuss, and ultimately to agree upon the manner in which Miss Mist letoe, the May Queen, and the Campus Sweetheart were to be elected. After much thought and careful consideration, the com mittee has come to the follow ing decisions; This year for the first time the contestants for the Campus Sweetheart will be spon sored by the organized men’s groups and organizations. All coeds that are regular students at Wesleyan are eligible to be in the Court. Three days before the dance the contestants will choose the Sweetheart by secret ballot vote. The vote will be based on popularity and participation. Also a contestant can represent only one club. If selected for more than one, the choice of representation will be made by the contestant. The following clubs or groups are eligible for participation: Circle K, Delta, Phi Sigma, Young Democrats, Wesleyan Players, Psychology Club, Band, Monogram Club, South Hall, Edgecombe Hall, Eco nomics Club, The Decree, The Dissenter, Wesleyan Singers, BSU, MSM, Day Students, Council, and Young Republicans. Clubs interested in partici pating should contact the Social Commission Chairman before the first of December. Second se mester classes begin February 4. Thus the clubs are strongly urged to select their representatives early in order to allow suffic ient time for preparations. All clubs must submit the names of their candidates to the Social Commission no later than January 22nd. The Campus Sweetheart’s pic ture will appear in The Decree, The Dissenter, The Evening Telegram, The News and Obser ver , and her local paper. Each ■contestant will carry a red rose and receive a charm. The girls will wear long formals for the figures and will be escorted in the figure by the club pre- sidents. The Campus Sweetheart will not be eligible to be the May Queen, but will be recog nized as an honorary member of the May Court. The contestants will vote Wednesday nlght-7:30 P.M. ( Feb. 10) at their first rehersal. The contestants will be required to attend additional rehearsals ; (Feb. 11 ( Thurs day) 4:00-5:00 and Feb. 13 (Sat urday) 1:00-2:00- Mrs. J. B, Wadkins will be the pageant dir ector. The queen for the Semi-for mal Christmas dance. Miss Mistletoe, will be chosen in the same manner as previously done. Nominations will come from the floor in Assembly December 1, and will be limited by plurality to five contestants. The polls will be open Friday- December 11 between the hours of 10:30 & 12:30, Only the Chairman of Some highlights of this year’s social commission’s highly successful functions. the Election Committee, Lewis Nixon; the reigning Queen, Marylyn Shepard; the SGA Presi dent, Robert Stephens; the News Reporter; and the Court Chair man may count votes or know the identity of th Queen until 10:30 December 12, Christmas court pictures will appear in The Decree, The Even- ing Telegram, News & Observer, and the home papers of the con- testants. Flowers ( not head dresses), complimentary dance tickets, and a charm will be given to each contestant. The Queen will receive a charm, flowers, and will wear the Miss Mistle toe crown. The members of the Court must be available for rehearsal to be held Saturday afternoon De cember 12 from 1:30 to 2:30 and must meet the appointments for pictures set up at Klllebrew Studio. The new Miss Mistle toe will not be eligible to hold the Campus Sweetheart Title or be the ‘65 May Queen. However, (Continued on page 5)
