WRESTLING: NEV/ SPORT AT
WESLEYAN
Along with soccer, wrestling
has recently been introduced as
one of the intercollegiate
competitive sports. The first
practice was held at 3:30 p. m.
Tuesday, December 1, In the new
gym. Approximately 25 boys
came out for the team and others
just to watch. This sport has
received much enthusiasm, and.
judging from the prospective
team members, we should have
a good year. I say this because
the team Is Tseing coached by
William Music, who, as you
remember, did a fine job with
our new soccer team,
Joe Boli^ ai)d Kris O’Conndr
have had pT^lous - experience
In wrestling andJoe Is helping to
give Instruction for the different
holds.
There are ten weight divis
ions ranging from 117 pounds to
unlimited which begins at 185
pounds. We have entries for all
ten divisions. Each match con
sists of nine minutes with three
three - minute periods. As In
professional wrestling, there are
three falls which determine the
winner. Also, in collegiate
wrestling, if a player Injures
his opponent, he automatically
loses the match. This Is the
staildard procedure for all weight
There have been five regul
arly scheduled matched for after-
Christmas vacation which In
clude Wilmington, Pembroke, and
St. .Andrew,rThere are hopes of
playing; .Methodist College and
Rocky Mount Senior High School
out of regular play before Chrlst-
joas.
Joe Bollncr has » tigbt on Dmi Everett as Dick Tripp
