($1.75 per person) Homecoming Dance—Tarrytown Mall 9:30-1 ($3:00 per couple) Wesleyan Receives Accreditation From Southern Association North Carolina Wesleyan College was granted regional accreditation retroactive to 1960 by being elected to full membership in the Southern Associ ation of Colleges and Schools Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the association’s annual meeting in Miami. N. C. Wesleyan, the first North Carolina college to be granted early candidate for membership status by the association, thus achieved accreditation at the earliest possible time after graduating the re quired minimum of three classes. Wesleyan’s open ing class in 1960, all freshmen, became its first graduating class in 1964. The third class, freshmen of 1962, graduated last May. Word of the favorable vote of the College Delegate Assem bly, representing every ac credited college in the Southern region, came from President Thomas A. Collins and A- cademic Dean Jack W. The week-end will be kicked off by theWesleyan-Washington and Lee basketball game on F riday night. During half-time of the game the eight candidates for Homecoming Queen will be introduced to the public. All alumni will be admitted to the game free of charge. The second event on the agenda for the week-end is Alumni Board of Directors Meeting which will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 A, M. in the College Trustee’s Room. Chapel Regulations Changed Several major changes nave been made concerning chapel attendance regulations and dis ciplinary action connected with failure to comply to the regu lations, In a recent Faculty meeting a measure was ap proved whereby each student at N, C. Wesleyan shall be given three unexcused chapel cuts per semester, and sanc tions for absences beyond this point shall be left up to the Dean of Students. This change represented the most recent in a long line of changes within the framework of the policies governing chapel attendance. Last spring the faculty ap proved a major change in the disciplinary action for over cutting chapeL At that time they approved a measure which stated that no student could be penalized academically for failure to attend chapeL Prior to that time it was possible for a student to have it entered on his permanent record, have quality points taken from him^ or even be suspended from school for overcutting chapeL It was also reported that the faculty stemmed from a recommendation they received from the Religious Life Com mittee (formerly the Chapel Committee) regarding sanc tions for chapel attendance. The recommendations read as fol lows: (Con’t. on page 8) At two o’clock that afternoon what could well be the clash of the century will take place when the alumni basketball team clashes with the faculty team, although both teams are keep ing their line-ups under lock and key, it is safe to assume that the alumni, who will be have such stars from yester year as Don Hines, Dapper- Dave Brady, and Bill Garlowe, plus some secret weapons from their ranks to represent them. The faculty, under the dir ection of Robert Chafin, math instructor turned coach for the occasion, have at their disposal such dynamic threats as Dr. Hailey of the Religion Depart ment, Mr. Gray the librarian, and Mr. Lowenthal of the Lan guage Department, plus Mr. Scalf, Mr. Music and Dr, Bauer of the Physical Education Department who will likely be substitutes. Although Mr. Chafin willdis- ALUMNI Come to the first Wes leyan Homecoming Week end and enjoy mulling over old times with your classmates and friends. The Wesleyan Social Commission has made every effort to see that this weekend will be an entertaining and joyous one for each and every alumnus who returns to school Friday and Sat urday, December 16 and 17, close no names, he readily admits that his starting line up, aptly named the “FiveTons of Fun", is something awe some to behold. He also in dicates that with a starting team like this one, several substitutes will be necessary so that the faculty can have a “finishing team,” Later in the day, after the linament and rub-downs to ease the pain of sore muscles, the alumni basketball team will join the rest of the alumni for a banquet to be held in the college cafeteria. The banquet, which will consist of Filet Mignon and trimmings, will cost $1,75 per person and is open only to Wesleyan Alumni and their guests. The Homecoming Dance, which is being held in Tarry town Mall, will begin at 9:30 and will feature a show by popular recording star Mary Walls. Music for the evening will be provided by the Inmates a popular dance group from Raleigh. Cost for the dance is $3,00 per couple. The dance, which is semi- formal, will be highlighted by the crowning of Wesleyan’s first Homecoming Queen and the pre sentation of her court. The Queen will be selected from a group consisting of two re presentatives of each of the current classes at Wesleyan, Special discounts have been arranged for alumni at Quality Motel Hal Orr’s and Coral Courts. Alumni wno are planning to return to Homecoming should make their own reservations at these two motels, stating that they are returning alumnus. 'm' CHRIS FELTS, a Junior transfer from Chowan Junior College, has led the Bishops basketball team in scoring in their first three games. With G1 points in the three games, Chris has shown early that he is a welcomed addition to the team. (See further details on games on pages 6 and 7).
