To Head Development Council At NCWC 1* L. Gravely, Jr., president of the local China American Tobacco Co. has been named chairman of the newly formed Development Council of North Carolina Wesleyan College, ac cording to Dr. Thomas A, Collins, college president. “We are indeed fortunate to have Mr. Gravely to head this new Development Council,” said President ColUns. “He will provide leadership for an expanding, continuing program on the part of the college to increase the understanding and support it receives from many Important publics.” “Since the time of our found ing,” Collins said, “North C arolina Wesleyan has received generous support from the people of Nash and Edgecombe counties through the Rocky Mount Area Wesleyan College F oundation and from the N, C. Conference of the Methodist church. It is vital that these two major sources of support be continued, but we also need to obtain support from many other, new sources.” Gravely is a native of Rocky M ount. His fami ly has long been associated with world-wide to bacco interests and active in civic and social life of the state. He was educated in the Rocky Mount public schools, Wood- berry Forest, and University of North Carolina. He was a squadron commander, and pilot of a medium bomber in North Africa and Southern Europe. He received many military honors including the Dis tinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal with 12 clusters, Presidential Citation and French Croix de Guerre. He is a director of the Plant ers National Bank and Trust Company of Rocky Mount and a meniber of the Masonic Shrine and Elks Club. His other in terests are Boy Scouts and N. C. Wesleyan College. The Development Council was initiated at the request of the Wesleyan trustees’ Committee on Public Relations and Devel opment. The chairman of this committee is A. L» Brandon, vice president of The Evening and Sunday Telegram' of Rocky Mount. ^Already included on the newly formed council are Edson U Washburn, president of the Rocky Mount Area Wesleyan College Foundation; Robert E. Siler, the foundation’s vice president and chairman of the current Continuing Sup port Campaign; and Gary M. 'Garlow, a N, C. Wesleyan grad- •'ate of the Class of ’64 and ciiairman of the Alumni Fund Committee of the NCWC Alum ni Association.
