Page 7 I'lie Decree ■F POTPOURRI Friday. December 9. 19K6 FOR CHRISTMAS GIVE HIM A By DOUG GROSECLOSE LLOYD NELSON SLA Elections Expand Judiciary Board To Seven Members Five new members of tliC’ N. C. Wesleyan SLA were cliosen in elections held Fri day, Decembe-r 2. The addition of these new members brings the total membership of the judicial body to seven, four more than in pre^vious years. Those newly elected mem bers are: Nancy Wellons, a sophomore from Richmond, Va.; Tim Isaacs, a senior from Mon rovia. Md.; Charles Kemp, a sophomore from Fairmont, N. C.; Barry Buck, a junior from Silver Springs, Md.; and Jun ior Lee Ball from Rocky Mount, N. C. These newly elected mem- be>rs join chairman Warren “Doc” Blanchard and Allan Ragsdale, who were elected last spring, and will serve terms ending at the end of the present school year. SLA membership was ex panded from three to seven members in legislation passed earlier this year in an at tempt to strengthen the judi ciary body and establish a stronger student government. MSM Speaks BY Kathy Upton “Christ in the Grey Flannel Suit, Revisited” was the topic of discussion lead by Dr. Wilde on our November 18 meeting. This was a follow up of a simi lar program presented last spring by Dr. Wilde. In this discussion Dr. Wilde related Christ to our every- d.ay life. This seems to be a problem for the young adult today. Our present forms of worship and our concepts of religion seem to be outdated. We seem to be bored with religion because it does not assist us in solving our per sonal problems. But, this should not be true. We can relate religion to our daily lives if we are acquainted with its basic concepts of life. This is the aim of the MSM. In our meetings we discuss ways in which we can live with our religion. In doing this v/e learn to live with other people and in turn find the true meaning of life. Then we live life in its fullest. Four of those elected re present the four new seats in the SLA while the fifth fills the vacancy created by the re signation of Tommy Cheshire, one of the members elected last spring. Wra Lists Plans The W. R. A. plans to or ganize basketball intramurals for any interested Wesleyan girls. Beginning Wednesday, December 7, the gym will be open for all interested to practice and organize teams. If enough teams are formed, intramurals will be set up and play offs will begin the follow- (Con’t. on page 8) It seems to me that there are several areas of campus life that need to be investigated at Wesleyan because of their obvious drawbacks. The office which so condescendingly cashes our checks for two hours and forty-five minutes each day and engages in the time con suming activity known as bal ancing the books the remainder of the time(of course this des cription does not take into con sideration the time the Business Office spends making parking regulations). There are several questions one might ask the Business Office upon his arrival at Wes leyan, if he would like to know where his money is going he may want to ask someone else since it is almost inpossible to get anything but a negative reply from the scriviners under Mr. Smith. The first question I would ask is, “Why can’t I cash checks anytime the office is open?” There is an obvious answer to this question of course, I have never been told what that answer is, but I am sure it is locked in a vault somewhere. A question which might be directed by some one wishing to serve in the Student Government would be, “How does the SGA put money in their account and more important, how is it taken out?” Answer, “No money can be de posited or withdrawn from the S GA account without the written consent of the SGA Treasurer,” That is wonderful, but it must be the answer that has been taught at some part-time ac counting schooL Throughout this year our SGA Treasurer, Ray Martin, has had great dif ficulties with the Business Of fice because students draw money from the SGA account and charge things to the SGA without his approval After the money is already disoersed Ray is called to approve its dispersion. This is quite an noying to Ray and even more annoying to his bookkeeping since he has only a certain a mount to be divided into many areas of need. It is evident THE AT PEOPLES ARE WORKING FOR PEOPLES BANK & TRUST COMPANY that the business office needs something in the way of a radical change in either policy or personnel, most of the student body liave already decided which of these areas needs the most change. Another problem around Wesleyan involving finance is the lingering question involving Mr. Harper’s reward for find ing the cat lost during one of the plays last year. It was announced by the drama de partment that a twenty-five dollar reward would be given to the person who found the lost cat. Several days later Mr. Harper (for those who do not know Harper, he is the night custodian of the gym, playboy, intramural star, and all-around great person) found and re turned the cat to the drama department. He never received the reward of twenty-five dollars. Many students have been asking where Mr. Harper’s reward money is and I would like to know myself. If the drama department is too cheap to give the money to him why don’t the students take up a collection and give Harper his money?
