THE DECREE PACK 2 EDITORIAL Wesleyan College is rapidly gaining the distinction of being the home of surprise policy changes. The administration feels that it is not necessary to warn students about a new or reactivated policy. Instead they merely send a memorandum stating what the policy is and that it is in effect and therefore stu dents will be held accountable. A prime example of this situation is the chapel cut fining program. Chapel attendance had grown lax and the Dean of Students was supposed to be studying the problem. After he completed his in vestigation, he began to remedy the situation. Dean Wilde sent individual records of attendance and carefully included the amount each student owed for not attending. We know that Wesleyan is in need of money, but this is not the way to obtain it. Instead, we feel that it would have been much fairer on the part of the Dean if he had announced the new fine policy and put it into effect at that time rather than making it retroactive. Wesleyan was able to raise revenue but the administration lost a part of jts past respected position. Another unfortunate plan from the Dean’s office descended on the student body after the first chapel service of this semester. It seems that the adminis tration has had some difficulty in deciding who has failed to attend chapel. In order to be more efficient and not lose any vital revenue, it was decided that Wesleyan would play kindergarten. The student body was divided alphabetically and filed through the door in a singular order, stopping to give their nafme. The three student checkers were forced to hurriedly scribble down the names. The exodus from the gym was delayed by twenty minutes and there v/as still the possibility that all names were not taken correctly. Perhaps the administration should develop a new head counting system. Consideration should be giv en to those students who must attend labs and classes and even after the chapel delay they face the long cafeteria lines. We are sure that the Dean is searching for the most efficient method of hand ling this problem. We heartily support the administration in many of its programs for the benefit of students, but the fear arises that our leaders are swaying from their past policies of fair and equal treatment. We send our con dolences to all those who didn’t make it back and to all those who did. We toast all those who made Dean’s List ( aca demically ) - you lousy slobs. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Omar Duts is no longer with us, but we’ll try to keep up the beat. ( Sorry about John, Peg ), We now welcome a new figure to the column, Mini-ha-ha, a pseu donym, of course. We would like to welcome back Steve DeArm’s old room mate, Seriously Knapp nice overall congeniality. Is it true that Walter “Atlas” of Edge combe dorm better known as “Mirror Man” has a mirror on his bed to admire his phy sique: Seriously Walt, nice muscles, BEWARE, girls, A certain b lond senior might try to snake you, Nice track shoes, Blondie. C ongratulations to Barbara Brown! She won $100 in the WRMT Mystery Celebrity con test. We all knew you’d make it big someday. Terry Neu- bold says he can pull straight “C’s” this semester but thinks trying for a few “B's” would tax his brain too much - what brain? We assume that JWF’s vocation is in the field of psy chology, but what about his avocation? A new benediction for Chapel Service: Line forms to the rear Really Sugar-Baby, you shouldn’t play games. We hear that a George Wallace cam paign poster was placed in Mr. Rushing’s Poll. Sci. class. Dr. Bond walked in and asked for the free balloons it advertised. No more will be said for we don’t want to blow this out of ported pipe tool! Pete Hathaway’s magnificent attendance record to away- basketball games finally ended on Friday, February 2, 1968. He tjianks Herb Hall for the mess up. However Pete “re treated” to a quick recovery. Let us all bow our heads in a moment of silent prayer for the residents of 3rd floor Edgecombe beqause George Littleton and Pete Schuyler are rooming in 324 - together even. Would you believe birds of a feather..,. The fashion consultant to the Decree staff has been taking a survey of our male students. Most of them lean to the right (political views?) A rising interest in graffiti by our more popular faculty members has been reported. It is true that Dr. Bond is going to write a book entitled “Graffiti” in the Faculty Lounge? We extend our sympathy to those faculty members who are victims of the new “anti canine” movement started in the comptroller’s office. We also send our regrets to Jeff, for poor Louise must also leave... We have word that Miss Mary Ann Proctor will soon achieve full understanding of the saying “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Watch out, M.A.P., we have a feeling you’re in for it- but justly so... We also wish to extend our apologies ( God we do care ) for the actions of Mike Knott and Baxter Smith ( the dancing bear ) at the retreat on Saturday night, Feb. 3. WE all love a good time, and we guess the Decree staff is no different. We would like to congratulate Pete S, and Terry N. who announced their engagement Saturday Feb. 3. One of the ^more prominent authors of this lumn had the honor, ho\^ever \ious, of being the first to ‘know.... It will be interesting to see who attracts the biggest turn-out, the newly founded Vault or Peabody’s Pub re opening. No doubts in our minds. We do wish Mike Dwyer and Dick Shannonhouse would get some “couth.” Is it true that one of our young businessmen is PW’d now? Watch it, we heard you discussing it in the hall with another girl! You’re gonna get it, Edward. Tony D. has aworded the song “Beg, Borrow and Steal” by the Ohio Express, the new words seem pertinent though. Conclusion: and so we bring to a close another exciting epi sode of the Saga behind the scenes at Wesleyan. At last, another bestowing of the in famous Hickey of the Week Award. And now in Rocky Mount the winner is Harrell Pratt. Poiytin’ Note - Goodbye to Buzz Woodard as he leaves for a contract with the U. S. Army Pictorial center at Fort Bragg. P. Leeland will ap preciate the loss of one who so diligently fouled his magic tricks. Wesleyan Receives Grant Two unrestricted grants of $1,000 each for educational ad vancement have recently been awarded to Wesleyan, accord ing to Dr, Collins, The grants came from City Service Foundation and from the P.
