The Senate found that it was divided into three separate parties, each having a different solu tion. One group favored an immediate rejection on the grounds of ambi guity and lack of clarity. This small group, follow ing the advice of Tippett, also urged the Senate to issue a counter-procla mation stating student rights. A "no co-opera tion” resolution was sug gested by this group stat ing that the Senate and student body would not obey the Proclamation. These moves were de feated. A second group of sen ators wanted to rework and reword the Procla mation sending it into a committee for consid eration, Catherine Simp son moved that a com mittee be formed to re- vise the Proclamation. Doug Cook then moved that a letter of rejection be sent to President Collins on the grounds that the word ing of the Proclamation was unclear. This mea sure provoked much dis cussion among the sena tors. Under the influence of a third group of sena tors that wanted a list of ambiguities drawn up. Cook s motion was a- mended by Bruce Wright to establish a joint ne gotiating committee of senators and President Collins. An amendment to the amendment was of fered by Doug Cook ask ing that until a suitable Proclamation pleasing to the President and stu dents be issued the Oc tober 23 Proclamation be retracted. The Cook mo tion, Wright amendment, and Cook amendment passed by moderate ma jorities. When asked what he thought the purpose of the committee should be, Bruce Wright said, “... to meet with Dr. Collins in an attempt to clarify the meaning of his Pro clamation. We hope to formulate a cleared and more acceptable admin istration policy concern ing student activism.” mold moom Stud^t Chai^ Accou^ Welcomed gSEE: ij: iiji'Little Mary Sunshine':!: Now Playing WESLEYAN TRIES HARDER By CRAIG GROSS Being only one of the participants in the soc cer game at Wilmington College on October 24, I can only give my side of the events which took place that afternoon. Tak ing an objective stand point in a situation like this is difficult because of the amount of disap pointment felt after a loss of 8-0. If this article seems to be giving ex cuses for the perfor mance the soccer team gave, it is only because of my 100% interest in the team. I can safely say that all members of the team feel their efforts should not be taken light ly. After having defeated Virginia Wesleyan by a considerable margin, the spirit of the team picked up tremendously. Our spirits had been raised to what they should have been the entire season. We had heard that Wil mington was a strong team. We therefore did not go to Wilmington with the idea that we were go ing to have any easy vic tory. We understood a hard struggle awaited us and that to get a victory would mean a double ef fort on everybody’s part. As the game progress ed. we found ourselves completely outclassed in ability. Wilmington’s strong, fast front line was able to penetrate Wesley- an’s defense a number of times, enabling them to score as often as they did. The offense had as much trouble as the de fense throughout the en tire game. It seemed as though Wesleyan could have controlled the ball more if it had only had extra strength at the wing positions, but unfortu nately, with Wilmington, being a strong all-around team, everything we at tempted ended in utter chaos. No matter how hard we tried to play good ball, Wilmington’s com plete domination of the game kept us from using any type of offensive strategy. The score at the end of the first half was 4-0. Wilmington again com pletely controlled the ball in the second half, scor ing four more points. Dur ing this half, Brian Twid- dy broke his foot. His in- jury as well as our 8-0 defeat dampened our spirits. I do think, how ever, that on the whole, the soccer team had shown a determination to overcome its inexper ience and to give 100% effort against any oppon ent.
