Wesleyan Contributes
(Continued from page 2)
$798,729.14 in salaries
and wages was expended
by North Carolina Wes
leyan College during the
67-68 academic year.
xMuch of this money is,
of course, spent in the
Rocky Mount community.
The material assets oi
the college could not be
considered without refer
ence to the cultural as
sets afforded by the col-
Probably the best
known and ±e most ap
preciated of these have
been the campus visits
made by groups such as
the New Christy Min
strels and N. C. State
Glee; concerts given by
Wesleyan Singers and
Concert Band, the Plat
ters and Amanda Am
brose; the programs pre
sented by folk singers,
poets, pianists, cellists,
guitarists; talks made by
scholars; and the plays
staged by Wesleyan Play
ers.
Among the many faculty
members who contribute
time and energy to the
community are Dr. Allen
S. Johnson and Moyd D„
Sawyer, both members of
the Kiwanis Club; Mack
Sturgill, Vance Mizelle,
and Dr. Jack E. Teagar
den, participants in Tank
theater; Corbitt Rushing,
D. S. Johnson, Dr, John
son, Dr. James Hailey,
Dr. Hugh Bond, Dr, Ray
mond Bauer, and Dean
Sim Wilde, who all teach
Sunday School classes in
their churches. Richard
Dill, Dr, and Mrs, Will
iam Sasser, and Dr. Allen
Cordts take active parts
in the music departments
of their respective chur
ches.
Thus, Wesleyan contri
butes both materially and
culturally to the sur
rounding communities.
