PAGE 6 THE DECREE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1970 Letters To The Editor (Continued From Page 2) viewed by the SGA president, and individually elected by 2/3 majority vote of the Senate. The disturbing factor of this provision is that it robs the student of his right to elect justices of his choice. Since the ^preme Court is designed to mete out punishments to stu dents, we feel that students should have a direct say in who the justices should be. Objec tions were raised by certain senators against student par ticipation in selection of jus tices on the assumption that Wesleyan students are too apa thetic to take an active respon sibility of electing their court justices. We realize that apa thy is a problem on campus, however we feel there may be too much power in the hands of Group To Appear Here Nov. 12 (Continued From Page 1) some short bridge music, and discovered “Maria Elena.” The tune was played frequently on the program and enquiries started pouring in. RCA Re cords reissued the track as a single record and it became a best seller. This led to the re-release of the album (un der the same title)and that, too, shot to the top of the best seller charts. RCA Records then started searching for Natalico and An- tenor and found them living on a farm sixty miles out of Rio. They recorded a new album, “Always In My Heart,” and their new and permanently suc cessful career was launched. Other LP’s issued since then include: “The Mellow Guitar Moods of Los Indios Taba- jaras”; “The Many Slendored Guitars of Los Indios Taba- jaras”; “Casually Classic”; and “Twin Guitars - In A Mood For Love”. They then made another Eu ropean tour and appeared with great success at the Olympia in Paris and with the Concert- gebouw Orchestra in Amster dam. Early in 1966, they re turned to the United States with their own families to set up per manent residence. Their hectic schedule of per sonal appearances will take them, in the fall of 1970 to practically every state in the U. S. when they begin their third consecutive college campus tour of the U. S. and Canada. too few people. As the two senators in oppo sition to the proposed amend ment, we advise all students to take particular notice of Section 2, topic A, sub-topics 1 and 2, and we urge you to vote NOT to accept the recommend ed constitutional revisions of the Student Supreme Court. Yet with pride Wesleyan students talk of the Upward Bound Program and the achievements of Wesleyan in this area. From the beginnings of this year a challenging change add ed flavor to the life of Wes leyan. To drop a foreign lan guage requrement, to put Into non-existence a failure system and to allow students to linger in school for 5, 6 or as many years as possible to achieve their aims may unjustly, but for this writing does sum up the que: lions of concern among the faculty and students, as to the new challenge of Wesleyan as an academic community. You had better believe students want to see the foreign language, requirement go. And you had better believe a no-failure, no- D-system would be much ap preciated. Yet what is the ma jor concern of Wesleyan, its faculty, its administration and its students? The ideas behind the no-fail ure, no-D-system are good, the ideas behind the no foreign! language requirements are good, and the idea Is that stu dents could concern themsel-' ves with majors and experimen tation that is essential to col lege life. Yet the standards of these ideas need not be set up and judged for our students have already shown their in ability to cope with these situa tions. To perceive the strength of Wesleyan the community must perceive an ever more responsible and Intelligent stu dent body. Where does the con cern of our average student lie? Ann Rand’s Unspeakable word and word that build an ever growing world was EGO. The ego of Wesleyan could use a little Inflation--not to destroy as a nationalsltic or facist ego might do, but rather an ego that will make Wesleyan not just a community of students bikering over Rocky Mount but a con cerned group of people involved in America and the World.
