‘the Spartans of the University
of North Carolina at Greens
boro 74-71 in a Homecoming
thriller here last Saturday af
ternoon.
The Bishops, making their
homecourt debut, appeared to
be doomed to their fourth loss
of the season in the first halt
of play, Wesleyan played a
scrappy 20 minutes and made
several turnovers which result
ed in several Spartan baskets.
In fact, the visitors led by as
many as 12 points on two oc
casions, The Bishops called
time, settled down and re
turned to the court with re
newed vigor, A man-to-man
and pressure 3-1-1 defense be
gan a Bishop comeback that cut
the deficit to five points, 38-33,
at the half.
Wesleyan returned to the
court the second halt with a
determination to win and scor
ed the first seven points of the
halt. The Bishops took the lead
40-38 on a fifteen foot jump
er by Sophomore forward Bill
Manson with I8r39 showing on
the clock. The score remained
close the entire half with nei
ther team leading by more than
five points. The Spartans ap
peared to have the game wrap
ped up with 3:20 remaining
and a 65-61 advantage, but the
Bishops again fought back. Man
son scored the. last Wesleyan
bucket with 3.-11 showing on the
clock and the rest of Wesley-
an’s points came from the char
ity stripe where they took ad
vantage of ten attempts. Sub
stitute Dave “Swish” Hummer
hit four of these while Man
son, Lauranzon, and McGirt
finished the line up,
Manson was high scorer for
the Bishops with 18 points. Su-
ter added 14 and McGIrt, 11.
Bruce Shaw took scoring hon
ors for the game with 19 while
Pelphoff, Estes, and Robbins
added 17, 16 and 11 respec
tively for the Spartans,
This game marks the third
win against three losses for the
Bishops while they stand 2-0
In the Dixie Conference. The
Bishops’ next game will Ije to
night when they take on the
Hornets of GreensboroCollege.

credit for the year and will
return to the campus to com
plete their degree require
ments.
This program appears to have
a number of advantages over the
traditional student teaching
program. Rising sophomores
and juniors will have an oppor
tunity to apply for this program
next year as well as another
program we are presently ne
gotiating with the Camp Lejeune
Schools In Jacksonville, N.C.
Curriculum III has presented
our teacher education program
with great opportunities to ex
pand and enlarge on the kinds
of experiences made available
to students. Those who are in
terested in obtaining further In
formation on any of these pro
grams are urged to discuss
them with any member of
the Education faculty.
