T PAGE 4 THE DECREE TUESDAY, APRIL 11, 1972 NCW, A Promise For The Future North Carolina Wesleyan College is once again ending another year and closing the books for what proved to be an interesting year in athletics. Most students here at Wesley an have already gotten that “we can’t win” attitude, but by the end of this year and the fall of next year I predict this cannot happen. The Soccer team this year went down with a final ledger of 0-13-1. But examine the re cord more carefully and find out how close these games were down to the last minute. The Wesleyan Booters of next year with the help of our new foreign students, the transfer students, and the experience gained by this year’s team will produce the best record Wesleyan has had since 1965. The basketball team should be another big surprise. A Bishop basketball team has ne ver won more than eight games in a single season. With a new coach arriving and the idle ta lent this campus has, combined with the present talent, Wesley an could be a champion for the first time in seven years. The Wesleyan Bowling team, under the guidance of Mr, Brac kett, finished in third place this year in conference play. This is marked improvement over last years last place finish. The team will return even stronger next year as they willbebackin full force. The Linksters here are just unbelievable, they are the de fending champions, and are once again threatening for the conference crown for the third straight year. The golf team is coached by Mr, Don Scalf. Spring Track is the newest addition to Wesleyan’s athletic program. Under the direction of Coach A1 Horne and Ben Gregory our team already has a winning season and is a very strong contender for their championship. The baseball team has equal led one of Wesleyan’s best sea son’s already. The baseball team is still young and will be in its peak in 1974, That is the year to watch for! The tennis team is last but by no means is it the least. They are currently undefeated!!!! They have defeated several of their opponents by scores of 9-0, And just recently defeat ed defending champion Lynch burg College 6-3, The point that Pm trying to stress is thatWesleyanis onthe rise. All her teams need is a support and a will to win. This along with her talented athletes will give NCW, A PROMISE FOR THE FUTURE. r 1 DAVID CLAYTON-THOMAS REG. $5.98 NOW $3.78 Cokimbia KCSlOO' \ liar discount records and tapes Tarry town Mall Open Nites till 9 p. m.
