FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1973 THE DECREE PAGE 5 Vice-Qiairman Selected Here NEWS BUREAU—Judge J. Phil Carlton of Pinetops was elected as vice-chairman of the N. C. Wesleyan College Board of Trustees at the semi-annual meeting in October. The announcement was made by Dr. Thomas A. Collins, Wesle yan president, who stated that Guy E. Barnes of Rocky Mount also will continue to serve as a vice-chairman. Board Chairman Thomas J. Pearsall praised Judge Carl ton’s election, stating that the college is fortunate to have such a capable young man in the office of vice-chairman. Pearsall was elected board chairman in June 1969, suc ceeding Luther W. Hill of Tarboro, who had served as Wesleyan’s board chairman since October 1956. Judge Carlton has served as a Wesleyan board member since his election in June 1969. J. Phil Carlton is chief district court judge of the Seventh Judicial District of North Carolina, which includes Nash, Wilson and Edgecombe counties. By TOM HARDISON Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honor fraternity, re cently tapped three new members at the 17th annual Founders Day Convocation. The new members are Ben Gregory, Robin Gulick and Tom Hardison. Tom Hardison is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Hardison from Durham, North Carolina. He has been Social Chairman, Associate Editor of the DECREE and is President of the Student Government Association. Robin Gulick, a Political Studies major is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F. Gulick of Catlett, Virginia. Robin is this year’s Aspects Editor and is student representative to the faculty. Ben Gregory is a Political Science major from Richmond Virginia. He is an Assistant Resident Counselor for South Hall and serves as Trainer for the Wesleyan Athletic Pro gram. These new members join with Tom Henderson, Charles Rogers, Dave Holt, Thomas Collins, President of the College; Dr. Jack Teagarden, Chairman of the Humanities Department; Dr. Raymond Bauer, Academic Dean; Dr. Allan Johnson, Chairman of the Social Sciences Department; Robert Maxwell, Dean of Students; Alvin Horne, Direc tor of Placement and Financial Aid and Corbitt Rushing of the Political Science Dept. NEWS BUREAU-The N. C. Wesleyan College Board of Trustees has approved an automatic $300 tuition dis count, to become effective Sept. 1, 1974, for every Nash-Edgecombe student who attends Wesleyan full time. The announcement was made by Wesleyan President Thomas A. Collins, who stated that this significant trustee action was taken at the semi-annual meeting on Oct. 25. “Wesley an’s trustees approved the tuition discount specifically in appreciation for the work of the Rocky Mount Area Wesleyan College Foundation and donors to the college. They also expressed a collective wish to stimulate interest in Wesleyan among the area high school students.” This discount will be avail able to every Nash-Edgecombe student who meets certain criteria. Among these criteria are: the student must officially enroll at Wesleyan as a full time student, be a legal resident of either county, or a graduate of a secondary school located in either of these counties. Legal (Continued to Page 8) Ten Wesleyan Students Named To ^^Who*s Who Ten Wesleyan students have been selected for inclusion in this year’s edition of Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges. Nominations were made and voted on by the Class of ’74 and the Wesleyan Faculty. Robin Gulick is a senior Political Studies major who hopes to continue on to graduate school after gradua tion from Wesleyan. Robin, while here has served as President of Edgecombe Dorm for the past three years. Editor of Aspects, the school literary magazine, and is the student representative to the faculty. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F. Gulick of Catlett, Virginia. Ann H. Simpson, the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Simpson of Hertford, South Carolina, is a senior Religion Major who plans to further her education at Duke Divinity School in Durham. Charlie Rogers is a senior Theatre major from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Charlie is a member of Alpha Delta Chi Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, the Wesleyan Social Commission, and has served as Editor-in- TOM HENDERSON Chief of the DECREE for the past two years. He plans to go on to graduate school for a deg^ree in Theatre Business Administration. Charlie is the grandson of Mrs. Katie L. Rogers. Tomas J. Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Henderson, of Williamsburg, Va., is a Senior Bio-Chemistry Major. He is a member of Chi Beta Phi Science Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, and is President of Alpha Delta Chi Fraternity. His plans include Dental School at the Medical College of Virginia. Brenda Pepper is a Senior Math Major from Dover, Dela ware. She plans a career in industry. Brenda has been an active member of the DISSEN TER staff and this year serves as the Editor. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold D. Pepper. Martha Scott Hemingway is the daughter of Mrs. Beth Hemingway of Richmond, Vir ginia. A senior English Major, Martha plans to teach high school upon graduation. Her activities include membership in Pi Epsilon Sorority and Assistant Resident Counselor of North Hall. Bess Custis is a senior Elementary Education major from Exmore, Virginia. She is a member of Pi Epsilon Sorority. Bess is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Custiss. Tom E. Hardison, who serves as President of the Student Government Associa tion, Associate Editor of the DECREE and Social Commis sion member is a Senior English major from Durham, N. C. He plans a career in the area of Public Relations and Advertising. Tom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Hardison. Marilyn J. (Lynn) Alston, a native of Littleton, N. C., is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton C. Alston. She is majoring in French and Ele mentary Education and plans to teach after graduation. Lynn is a Wesleyan Cheerleader and a member of Pi Epsilon Sorority. Jane Gravely is a senior Math major from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Jane has served on the Academic CouncU and has been active in the Wesleyan College theatre pro ductions. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund K. Gravely. “Who’s Who” is a recognized institution of the American academic community that con fers this award annually to outstanding student leaders. Over the past forty years more than 1,000 colleges and univer sities have adopted this pro gram as part of their annual campus honors.
