MONDAY, DECEMBER 10,1973 1 i Dear Chief. There’s another underground club on campus . .. and one that sounds a lot like the Sooner Club, except for one rather obvious difference. The Pro tractor Club has recently sur faced—and the membership is all girls. The Protractors (pronounced (PROtractors) came to the surface the other day in the Decree office as a couple of the members blew the cover off the Club. They (Donna Noell, Debbie Pearce, Cindy Wax, Peggy Verkler and Carol DiBlasi, alumni) would have you all believe that the club dates before the grand- daddy of all Wesleyan outlaw clubs, the Sooners, but I doubt it, sort of. The girls say they got started a year or so ago when some girl was baking cookies for the Compass Club. In she came, enthralled with her baking ability. “What are you girls up to?” she asked. “I’m baking cookies for the Compass Club.” “Oh yeh?’ quipped DiBlasi, “WeU, were makin’ Dacquiris for the PRO- tractors Club.” And, just like the now classic “We’d sooner be anywhere than Wesleyan , a club was born. DiBlasi has to be credited with being the Founding Mother and Noell and Verkler were founding members. Pear ce and Wax are the “newies”, sometimes called pledges. There seems to be at least a subconcious effort to be the female counterpart of The Pearsall Challenges (Continued from Page 1) donars on a dollar for dollar basis. Each alumnus who increases his donation from his previous gift will have his increase matched by Pearsall. All Wesleyan alumni have been notified of the Pearsall Challenge. In making his offer to the young alumni body, Pearsall stated, “I trust this will stimulate a great deal of interest and make our alumni more aware of the on-going development of their college. I have every faith that this year the Alumni Fund will exceed all former years Sooners although when this reporter talked to a few of the girls they wouldn’t admit it. When asked if they plan any parties like the Sooners they said “yes, if we get more members. But we’d get toge ther with the Sooners to help. “I g^ess we are a lot like the Sooners, said one of the PROtractors,” we do it all except hang moons. “If we were guys like the Sooners we would get the hell out of Dodge, like the Sooners.” They haven’t taken too any road trips, except one to Raleigh and one to Greenville. The trip to Raleigh was kind of a dud because an extended cruise along the boy’s dorms at State didn’t turn up anything and they got carded in all the bars. The aims of the PROtractors Club at this time are a little vague. “Whew,” said Pearce, “we haven’t even thought of any.” They have formulated secret tap-ihs, like the Sooners, and have come up with a Sweetheart. He is Harry Reems, the male star of “Deep Throat” and “The Devil and Miss Jones.” They have come up with a motto (“Gotta Be Quick”) and are in the process of getting a crest made. “The only thing concrete about what PEPSICOLA You've Got A Lot To Live Pepsi's fiot A Lot To Give will be on our crest is our mascot. A goose,” said one member. Second semester, the girls promise, will be a great one for the club. “We have our eyes on a few girls we’d like to join, and, gas or no gas we are going to take road trips whenever we can. We stole a map of the Eastern United States from a Sooner not long ago and now we’ve got an idea of all the hot towns and hot bars we need to make it to.” The girls have had their picture taken and hope to have it inserted into the next yearbook. “We got a lot to do to catch up to the noteriety of the Sooners but we’ve come a long way, baby.” All I can say is good luck, PROtractors, and I hope you take a little pressure off the Sooners. Maybe this is the start of the countries first frarority. I wonder if the Sooners and the PROtractors could ever get it together? (Continued from Page 2) The dance was a complete success. I appreciated the help of everyone who helped Mac and me to set up the Shrine Club. We were all ready when 9:00 came. Mac di4 a great job in his choice of the band. The Royal Kings. Thanks, partner. I haven’t heard a dissenting comment about the dance yet and that’s a definite “plus” for the Social Commission. There are so many more people to thank—Mrs. Harri son, for supplying all of the refreshments; Mrs. Batchelor, for lending trays from the cafeteria; Mrs. Hagins and Mrs. Alexander for helping us at the door; Gerry Webb at the Flower & Gift Bazaar, for donating the flowers for the Queen; and of course everyone who attended the dance. I know that this is one Homecoming that I won’t forget for a long time. Sincerely, Cindy Wax Social Commission Merry Christmas a Happy New Year!!! FROM Mack’s Tavern "Where The Good Times Roll!!!" There's a special rate most airlines don't mnm I'm-sorry-sir-but-all- ^ the-seats-are-taken-rate. l{ you're denied a seafon a flight for which you hold a-confirmed reservation, and the airline can t get you on another flight scheduled to arrive wilh.n two hours of your originally scheduled arrival, you're entitled to mmediate compensation The airline must give you your money back and an amount equal to the value of the f.rst fhght coupon on vour ticket providing the coupon cost a minimum of S25 and a maximum ot S200. In many cases that means double your money back. Deliberate overbooking is a deceptive practice jsed to insure a completely booked flight If an airline does It to you ask for immediate compensation.
