PAGE 2 THE DECREE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1974 Inflation And Budget Cut Hamper Progress Due to inflation, the cost of supplies needed to comprise a newspaper has risen. The cutback of allocations to the newspaper budget has compounded the problem. Because the release of the newspaper needs to be in a consecutive pattern, we have held back this publication. Now that we are assured of enough supplies to last throughout the semester, the newspaper will be printed at regular time intervals. We apologize for this late release date and wish it would have been possible to prevent it. Hope you enjoy reading it! Sincerely, Susan Kelly Editor Convocations: A Must By Senior Year The Convocations Program for Fall, 1974, has as its theme the question “Is the South ^^ferent?” We are an over whelmingly southern college community, and are therefore addressed directly and impor tantly by the theme. Gymnasts Captivated House The internationally famous Danish Gym Team performed at N. C. Wesleyan College on Sept. 27, in Everett Gym nasium before a captive au dience. This was the first event of the 1974-75 Rocky Mount- Wesleyan Performing Arts Series. Featuring twelve young men and twelve young women, the Danish Gym Team performed a great variety of modern rhyth mical gymastics, artistic vault ing and tumbling, plus a selection of traditional Danish folk dances in colorful national costumes. The majority of the program was accompanied by carefully selected music, both classic and modern, and the folk dances were performed to Danish folk tunes. The gfymnasts have been Olympics participants and share a common interest in their dedication to physical education. Gymnastics on ba lance-beams of different heights are among the most spectacular part of the g^irls’ program. Often they work with hoops, ropes, balls, clubs and tambourines, adding to the effectiveness of their perfor mance. The Danish Gym Team has performed in many countries, including China, where they were guests of that country that 19 days and gave per formances in the largest audi toriums in Peking, Tientsin and Shanghai before capacity au diences. The team has traveled for twelve years and its members are chosen each year from the many skillful gymnasts in Den mark. Their tours are under the auspices of the Danish gov ernment and during this year’s U. S. tour. Rocky Mount was one of only two stops in North Carolina. % fC m Are you hunting for a summer newspaper job? Start now!
