PAGE 2 THE DECREE FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 11,1977 To Rush Or Not To Rush? Phi? Chi? Pi? Delta? It’s almost that time again and everybody in one of the Greek systems is hurrying around making last minute preparations for the biggest and longest social event on Wesleyan’s campus. Rush Week. It’s the time when all the freshmen and transfers and a few upperclassmen must decide whether or not they want to commit themselves to any particular system, become a member of the Wesleyan Sooner Club, or remain a GDI. Each individual should decide what each of the Greeks have to offer him and what he can offer the system. This week will be one that students will not forget for a long time. Greeks will be speaking to people they never knew existed before, and most of the people will probably not be paying any attention to talk, but to drinking. It will be a time when Wesleyan will sport that University look and everybody will be playing “Joe Cool” and “Mr. Nice Guy.” So watch out! Fraternities and Sororities play a valuable part on the Wesleyan Campus and sometimes provide the only source of social life on campus the time is now, so think about it and answer the big question for yourself, ‘To rush, or not to rush?” Notice The opinions expressed in articles pertaining to Greek systems are not necessarily those of the staff or editors of the Decree or those of the college in general. The stories were prepared by each respective organization. The Decree gave equd space to each and the layout is in alphabetical order. Also it should be known that the pictures used do not necessarily represent the entire greek system at present. Well, for $4.95 a marketing firm in California will send you the “I AM” card, a full-sized, heavy guage and personally embossed “credit” card of human rights which is being introduced nationally. The advertisement boasts that the card “is designed to provide children with positive identifi cation, while at the same time helping them tell the world “I AM in no uncertain terms. So even self-identity has come down to credit card terms. Think what you could charge on a card like this. “I’d like to charge my personality, please and would you also bill me for a new sense of humor wlilfe you’re at it? Thank you very much.” The Communicraft Company in Los Angeles goes on about its latest product ad absurdum. “Presumably, we are all born with certain inalienable rights,” says Jerry Poppink, the card’s developer, “but these basic rights are too often ‘forgotten’ by others . . . Thus the I AM card provides the first import ant step in helping children remember they do exist. . . ” So if you’re stuck for new ideas and pet rocks are simply too passe for your taste, join the ranks of the unidentified and make a profiteer happy. kmmw h ^iNLY., A WOHANu.
