PAGE 4 THE DECREE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1980 “Gold mine” for college students SGA NEWSLETTER Hi! TheS.G.A. has been fairly active this month. A few of the most pressing issues under deliberation are the establish ment of ROTC on campus, revising some Homecoming rules, and checking out the financial aspect of sending our grade “A”-number one Volleyball Team to their next few Tournaments. There are a few correc tions to be made in last month’s Newsletter. The temporary S.G.A. secretary is Gail Joyner, not Ginny Hahn. Ginny Hahn is the Senate secretary. Also, the Grievance and Food Services Committees are Senate committees. I’m sorry if my mistakes have caused any confusion. Sincerely, Lisa Humerickhouse By Becky Plummer Where do you find the best cheeseburger in town, and some of the local craftsmen’s finest hand-made items all under the same roof? Why, it’s just within biking distance of Wesleyan, and it’s called Benvenue Grill and Gift Shop. For the hungry and the poor, this place is a gold mine. The restaurant is owned and operated by Ken and Jeannette Watson, who agree that the specialty of the house is the cheeseburger. If Wendy thinks she has an old- fashioned hamburger, she should see Ken’s. Psalm for Wesleyan (As taken from Dissenter 1975, revised by Tony Pierce) The Professor is my Quiz master, I shall not flunk. He maketh me enter the classroom He leadeth me to the hot seat He restoreth my fears He leadeth me into deep problems (for my grades sake) Yea though I know not the answers, the class is with me I prepareth for class in the presence of my professors I anointeth my head with facts, my time runneth out. Surely N.C.’s and F’s shall follow me all the days of my life And I shall dwell in these classroom forever. Who, you ask? - Our own Wesleyan Singers! In November 21, they travelled to Wasington, N.C. to the T.V. studios of WITN, channel 7, to pre-record a concert for the Yuletide Season. The program will be aired on Christmas Day at noon. So those of you who will remain in the area over the holidays should be sure not to miss it. After all, it , is not every day that you see a friend or two on T.V.! Podesta to exhibit art Michael Podesta, calligrapher and graphic artist from Carrollton, Va., arrived at Wesleyan on Nov. 18 to present himself and his work to Wesleyan population. He gave an informal lecture in the library to kick off the exhibit. The show will remain in the library until Dec. 3. Students, staff, and faculty are cordially invited to come by the library to purchase and-or browse. Mr. Podesta promises delivery in time for Christmas on all orders taken during the show. Order forms and price lists will be available in the library. homemade chili drooling from the edges. This cheeseburger can be yours for only $.85. Amazing? That’s not all. The only item on the menu that is priced over a dollar is the Bar-B-Q sandwich. You may have your choice of bottled drinks for $.30, or fountain drinks for $.25 and $.40. The atmosphere is very congenial, and faster service cannot be found even at McDonald’s, the fast-food king. (And don’t let them fool you; there is no silver under those golden arches.) Aside from the excellent food, the restaurant boasts a grade “A” sanitation rating, two pin-ball machines, and a juke box with selections ranging from the Rolling Stones to Conway Twitty to the Pointer Sisters. Ken opens at 6 a.m. for the breakfast crowd, serving homemade ham, sausage, and pork tenderloin biscuits at prices below those of his competitors. For those who prefer a doughnut with their morning coffee, a fresh batch of pastries is brought in each morning from Ann’s bakery. Closing time is 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6 p.m. on Saturday. The grill rests on Sunday. Step next door, and you find yourself in the Christmas shopper’s dream. Jo Ann Hayes is the owner and operator of this charming shop with its hundreds of fabulous finds. As I browse along on the shining hardwood floors and straw rugs from Williamsburg, Va., I am constantly amazed at the low prices and variety of gifts. There are hand-made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls with embroidered faces for only $21.95. Each is sitting in a lovely wooden cradle made by a local man, and stained and finished by the shop owner’s husband. Dried flower arrangements abound as do Christmas and autumn wreaths. There are exquisitely crocheted shawls and afghans, jewelry boxes of several styles and sizes, glass cheese and candy dishes, and quilted place mats and kit chen accessories with Christmas motifs. The variety does not end there. It goes on to include an antique love seat with crewel upholstery, a matching brass floor lamp and ashtray stand, broomstick toy horses, and wood carvings. Many gifts are priced under $5. WESLEYAN RECEIVES 27 MEGABYTES (Continued from Page 1) courses offered as each department desires students’ access to the computer. The printer will not be able to print graphs since it will operate on disks, which will be easier to store, and one disk has about ten times the store as one magnetic tape. It is of the type which requires a certain environment, tem perature, and humidity. Unfortunately, every student will not, have access to the main computer. It will be possible only in certain courses where it is ap propriate. All students probably will be able to use the terminal in the learning center. But the majority of students will not be able to get into a computer course before next fall. This course will be an introductory study of computers, at its most basic level; someone familiar with computers probably would not need to take it. The impact of this com puter on the future of Wesleyan will be felt strongest in the long-range planning of college needs, programs, enrollment, and goals. At present, the college is unable to do long-range planning. The ability to see where the college is going, might very well make the difference in the success of North Carolina Wesleyan College. I contend that as a student of this college, its success or failure affects everyone of us. HOT-SPoT :flack
