PAGE 4 — THE DECREE — OCTOBER 19,1990 Greek Briefs Intramural activities stir good competition By TREY DAVIS Delta Sigma Phi plans Oct. 31 costume dance Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, a social fraternity formeily known as Alpha Delta Chi, will once again sponsor the Halloween cos tume dance in the Student Ac tivities Center on Oct. 31. Last year’s dance was a huge success with the best costumer winner walking away with a $75 cash prize, the same amount as this year’s prize. Attendance at last year’s dance was also out standing, and the fraternity is hoping for an even better turnout this year. The dance will have Partypro as the DJ and will have refresh ments, including the Witch’s Brew, as well as a special mys tery guest. Pi Kappa Phi to hold second Bowl-A-Thon Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, along with the help of Pi Epsilon Soror ity, will hold its second annual Bowl-A-Thon on Oct. 30. The Bowling Center, Inc. will open its doors to the Wesleyan student body, faculty, and staff from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The cost will be $5 to bowl the entire evening. “It was a big success last year,” said Todd Utter, Pi Kappa Phi brother, “and it will be even big ger this year.” All the money made in the fundraiser will go to Pi Kappa Phi’s philanthropy, P.U.S.H. — People Understanding the Se verely Handicapped. Pi Epsilon sorority active in community Pi ^silon Sorority has been actively involved with helping the Wesleyan as well as the Rocky Mount community. On Saturday, some of the sis ters volunteered their time at the Down East Festival and Monday, Pi Epsilon co-sponsored the Red Cross blood drive. Currently, Pi Epsilon is work ing on sponsoring chapel service on Oct. 24 at noon, and on Oct. 22 the sisters will be on hand for the Special Olympics, which will be held on campus. This year intramural sports will be big on campus for those who are interesting in participat ing. Already flag football, tennis, and coed volleyball have begun with a lot of good cwnpetition between students. John Brackett, in charge of intramural sports on campus, has scheduled many sports for stu dents interested in keeping in shape and enjoying good fun competition. This fall he has scheduled volleyball, flag foot ball, tennis, table tennis, and a Three-on-Three Basketball Tour nament. Last year’s winner of the tournament was sent at the college’s expense to Furman Uni versity in South Carolina to com pete against other colleges and universities. In November, Brackett has scheduled a two-mile race called the ‘Turkey Trot” when men and women will race to win a turkey. There are two winners, one for the men and one fw the women. In the spring, Brackett has scheduled five-on-five basketball, coed softball, and possibly golf The coed intramural volleyball season has come to an end witii the Spikors wiiming the regular season and the tournament cham pionship. During the regular season, each team played a total of four games with the Spikers going undefeated and the Dirty Dawgs finished second at 3-1. Other teams participating in the league were Sigma Pi, 2-2; Delta Sigma Phi, 1-3; and Pi Kappa Phi, 0-4. T^e tournament began on Oct. 8 with Delta Sigma Phi defeating Pi Kappa Phi by scores of 13-15, 15-3, and 15-9. On Oct. 9, the Spikers defeated Delta Sigma Phi and a Homerun Derby. During all the events, the win ners will receive tee shirts for their accomplishments. 15-11 and 15-9. Also that night. Sigma Pi defeated the Dirty Dawgs, 15-10 and 16-14. The championship game was held on OcL 10 with tiie Spik^ winning the championship in two straight games, 15-9 and 15-6. The members of the Spikers each received a tee-shirt. Rutgei s drops ROTC Rutgers University official David Bums said Aug. 22 that his Newark, NJ., school had be come the first in the country to stop giving scholarships to Re serve Officer Training Corps stu dents because of ROTC’s policy banning homosexuals from the military.
