Take time to attend spring symposium As the 1992 North Carolina Wesleyan Symposium ap proaches, it is the editors’ hope that more students will attend than in past years. This year, the Division of Business is sponsoring the symposium with its theme, “Understand ing Life in the International Commimity.” It would seem that many students would attend the symposium this year because a large portion of the Wesleyan student population are business majors. Not only should busi ness majors attend the aimual event, but all students should come to the lectures and panel discussions. In today’s society, employ ers are looking forintemation- ally-minded individuals who know what is going on in the world. No longer is it sufficient for individuals to know local, state, and national news. It is imperative for the employee of any field to know what is going on in the world today, because in some form it will affect your job and career. The symposium is a two- day event that students should not look upon as a two-day vacation. There are enormous amounts of information that can be used as we continue in our college careers. Moreover, this information will be vital as we graduate and go into the real world and into the work force. So don’t sit down and think that there are no classes on Feb. 12-13. Go to as many events as you can, and learn about how life in the international community is, and will, affect us. We, as students, spend a lot of money and time during our college careers. Don’t let something like the Wesleyan Symposium slide by. It might not seem important now, but when we all look back at what we did in our college life, we will realize how impor tant such events as the Wes leyan Symposium really are. WRtmNG! ! STEVE FEREBEE Oliver Stone’s JFK has led to violent condemnations of Stone from the left and the right If the conspiracy theory is without’ merit, why are so many questions left unanswered about John Kennedy’s assassination? Why can’t Stone ask these questions without being condemned for ev ery crime but incest? His detractors make me more willing to believe that the official story is not true. I was taking a social studies test when the school secretary walked in and said that the presi dent had been shot. The next three days were memorable for their eerie quietness and seriousness. Oswald’s assassination seemed puzzling, but the papers were al ready full of his Communist background, so what did he ex pect? A kind of innocent trust Dr. Steve Muses disappeared from the country that weekend. We could, it seemed, be destroyed within. The Warren Report came and went before I got to college, and I assumed tliat what I’d read about it was true, that Oswald had acted historical accuracy of what the movie implies. I believe much of what Stone shows, and reject some. Even if some of the details are incorrect, however, I would not be surprised if the FBI-CIA- Military Industrial Complex could and would have created such a conspiracy and cover-up. I think we should take seriously the larger issue which Stone raises: if we don’t want the few with power and money to hide the truth (or create the truth), we have to be Stone movie was portrayed in the newspapers as a circus ringled by a nut case. In college 1 read quite a bit about Kennedy and can still feel the pain which resulted from realizing that I’d been sold a Camelot lie about him. But in my childhood he was a martyr to civil for the ^t^^' I cannot adequately judge the to challenge them and ex- p&t to pay the costs. Stone’s ability as a director is great; the tightly framed talking- head shots in JFK are quite ef fective; and the collage of actual footage with re-made shots im presses and holds the attention. The acting in the movie is phe- nomi^nal, from a slick Kevin Ba- ^ori t^a^^aming Joe Pesci; from (Continued on Page 3) Insider lets off a potpourri of steam Hola! and welcome back to another tour here at the camp. Sorry I have been quiet for so long, but Insider has been letting all the administration’s antics fuel that little fire in his heart, and now the fire has grown to epic proportions, time to explode. First, let me mention security’s recent interesi in their duty. The last two weeks of schools were prime ticket time. What s the deal with this? You disgrace all those who wear the badge of rent-a- copy proudly. Need I mention chairs on the roof? Insider’s going to start ticketing security for parking in handicapped zones. Just like Insider did last year, do you remember Mr. officer? Final word, on behalf of all of the soccer team, who cut that one liuio cor.ier during hell week, “Sit on it."’ Post script on security — Libraries are an important part of our educational system. They Insider should be protected and watched after carefully. Maybe if you stopped worrying about what resident students are making too much noise, or parking in the wrong place, you could protect our campus from book thieves. Next 6rder of business, from here on out, let it be known tliat smoking pot is now legal, there is no drinking age, and you can shoot whomever you want. Why? Be cause Insider said so. You mean I can’t do that? Tlien why can the R.D, in South do it? Is he above the constituUonal law? He stopped all visitation and increased fines all by himself, so why can’t In sider? Where you do you get off messing around with the consti tutional rights established by our, forefathers that protect us from tyrants like yourself? Enough said. Oh, my gosh! Golly gee! The walls are melting. Is it because the heater is broken? Why do I see all these pretty colors? Why can I hear every conversation in the room at one time? Because you’re on drugs, that’s why. Is it (Continued on Page 3)
