PAGE 2 — THE DECREE — FEBRUARY 14,1997 Campus Life Don’t lose any sleep over faithless friend Dear Clementine: I recently became good friends with the ex-wife of my boyfriend’s friend. I helped her through their divorce, I babysat their toddler son, we spent a lot of time together — up until two weeks ago. That was the last time I saw her. See, she’s been seeing this new guy and now all her free time is spent with him. But that’s not what bothers me. I have called her repeatedly to talk to her and see how she’s do ing. but she won’t answer her phone. (She has Caller ID so I know she knows I’m calling.) I can't understand what I have done to make her not want to talk to me. This has never happened to .me before; Have I been royally taken advantage of? Dumped and Discouraged. Dear Dumped: I hate to tell ya this, girl, but you've been given the shaft. Your “friend” (I put this word in quotes because she obviously does not deserve the title) has shown no regard for you or your feelings. You expressed how much you eared for her by putting your own life aside to hcb in her time of need and whai tides she do? She ;,’ivcs you a hi" 'at slap in the facc LIS thanks. As far as I’m con cerned she is not your friend, and if [ \\'ere you I’d just forget I even met this non-companion. Okav. I’m taking it a little far. I’m just sorry this had to happen to you Women who do this to other women just disgust me. It’s hard enough to find females to trust in this world, since most can be pretty catty. But girls who screw over their friends for ap parently no reason, are wrong. But I suppose this girl must have dis played some genuine goodness for you to have been her bud in the first place. I know it’s painful for some one you considered a confidant to up and drop you at the chance for a new guy pal, especially af ter all you helped her through. And for her to not even acknowl edge you when you go out of your way to call her must totally mys tify you. I think it’s the not know ing why she won’t talk to you that hurts the most. Am I right? If it would make you feel bet ter to know the truth and continu ing to call her gets you nowhere, write her a letter. Let her know that you are confused and hurt by the way she’s ignoring you, ask her the reasons for this sudden dismissal, and it’ll be up to her to make the effort. Remember, maybe she really is too busy to call you back. You did say she just went through a divorce. It could be genuine, so hear her out. However, if there is still no effort made, forget her. She sounds screwy to me. You’d prob ably be better off witliout such a hurtful person in your life. Reporters wanted!
