PAGE 2 — THE DECREE — APRIL 19,1999 PBL chapter excels at state conference The members of the Rho Al pha Psi Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda attended the 45th An nual North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Con ference in Greensboro March 26- 27. Five members and two advi sors from Wesleyan’s PBL chap ter represented the college at this event. The members attending were President Phillip Strickland, Vice President Kelly Lynch, Sec retary Donna Lowe, Treasurer Mike Hoppe, and Reporter/His torian Pamela Foreman, along with chapter advisors Dana Ford and Dr. Warren Stone. The conference consisted of various leadership seminars and work shops, general state and re gional business sessions, as well as the much anticipated business competitions. Wesleyan’s five members competed against 351 fellow PBL members from 31 lo cal chapters across the state. “We had a pretty successful conference,” chapter President Phillip Strickland said. “We sure walked away with a lot of awards and recognition to be as small of a chapter as we are.” ATTENDED CONFERENCE — Wesleyan PBL members who attended the State Conference were (from left) Pamela Foreman, Dana Ford, Michael Hoppe, Donna Lowe, Phillip Strickland, Kelly Lynch and (not pictured) Warren Stone. Among other awards and rec ognitions, Mike Hoppe and Phillip Strickland were recog nized in Who’s Who in North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda , and the Wesleyan chapter was named Local Chapter of the Year — Eastern Region. Phillip Strickland qualified to compete against fellow PBL win ners nationwide in the Informa tion Management by placing first in that event and Mike Hoppe, who also won first place in Pub lic Speaking, also earned a chance for the national competition. They will compete at the PBL National Leadership Conference held this July in Chicago. III. In addition to the two faculty advisors, three Wesleyan faculty/ staff attended the conference as event judges. Dr. Bob Trullinger, A1 Fundaburk and Bill Lightfoot each contributed their time to help judge North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda members in various events.
