By SHANNON ST.GEORGE Although both the men’s and women’s basketball teams suf fered disappointing season end ings, they have received many post season honors. Junior Misty Cameal (Bum- pass, Va.) was named Dixie Con ference Player of the Year and First Team All-Dixie Conference for the second consecutive year. Despite the Lady Bishops fifth place finish Cameal lead the con ference in scoring 19 ppg (495 total), was second in free throws (100-129; .775 percent) and was third in steals with 2.31 ppg (60 total). Cameal also ranked in the top 10 in assists and blocked shots and ranked among the top 15 in field goal percentage. Cameal was named Dixie Conference Player of the Week four times this sea son. On the men’s side, the Bish ops placed three players on the Dixie Conference All-Conference Teams. Wesleyan finished the Civic Gallery exhibition solicits mail art based on story of Noah Lest we forget. Rocky Mount, Princeville, Tarboro, and their surrounding communities expe rienced devastating flooding from Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Clean up, resettling, and rebuilding will continue for years to come. Memories of fear, loss, and dis placement are allayed by recall ing the good will, charity, and mutual compassion of neighbors and strangers helping one another during this challenging time. Every year the Civic Gallery in the Dunn Center of N.C. Wesleyan College hosts an art exhibition celebrating Martin Luther King’s Birthday with the MLK Commission of Rocky Mount. This year in the spirit of Dr. King’s dream of international brotherhood, the Civic Gallery solicited mail-art world-wide and from the Nash-Edgecombe County schools. The theme this year was “The Story of Noah” and was open to any and all interpretations, from the Old-Testament Noah to the horrors of our own flooding. The Gallery received almost 1,600 pieces of mail art; much has come from a dozen different countries from all over the world. Teachers from Roanoke Rapids and Weldon have taken special interest in this exhibition and the gallery has received some fine pieces of mail-art from their schools, including a wonderful season with 17-8 mark, 8-4 in the Dixie for third place. Senior Fabian Lawrence was the only Bishop named to the First Team. Lawrence averaged 9.7 ppg (16th in the Dixie), 9.0 rpg (2nd in Dixie), 2.3 steals pg (1st in Dixie), 1.4 blocks pg (5th in Dixie) and 3.4 assists pg (7th in Dixie). Lawrence was the only player in the Dixie to rank in the top 10 in every category except scoring. Currently he ranks eighth all-time in N.C.W.C history with 519 re bounds and 10 all-time in N.C.W.C history with 259 assists. Senior Chad Green (Swan Quarter) and Freshman Keith Sudler (Fayetteville) were named to the second team All-Dixie Con ference. Green averaged 12.6 ppg (8th in Dixie), 7.2 rpg (6th in Dixie), 49 percent FG (9th in Dixie) and 2.5 blocks pg (3rd in Dixie). Green led the Bishops in scoring during the 2000-2001 sea son in overall games. Also, he currently ranks 10th all-time in N.C.W.C history with 485 re bounds. Freshman Keith Sudler aver aged 15.7 ppg during Dixie Con ference play (4th in Dixie), 5.3 rpg (13th in Dixie), 46 percent FG (14th in Dixie) and 86 per cent FT (2nd in Dixie). Sudler was also named as the Dixie Conference’s Co-Rookie of the Year. mural. Many children from the Nash and Edgecombe County public and private schools have participated in this intemational experience; The Gallery has almost a thou sand pieces altogether from the two counties. Following the free and demo cratic rales of mail art, every piece is on display and a catalogue with every participant’s name will be mailed to all the participants worldwide. “The Story of Noah” Intema tional Mail Art Exhibition will be on view in the Civic Gallery in the Dunn Center until Oct. 28.
