Drum has taken the position as the Chaplain here at Wesleyan. Since the late ‘90s Rev. Drum has been teaching at the college level. “Instantly I felt at home on this campus and felt that Wesleyan was the place for me and felt that Wesleyan was the place for him to be.” He has always enjoyed teaching but now is very excited about being the Chaplain, “When I heard about the Chaplain opening, I immediately went to the president and asked for the job.” As Chaplain, Rev. Drum has visions that he would like to see happen on campus. He would like to see the diversed community come together. He realizes that not everyone has the same beliefs of Christian ideas. For those that do he would like to see them unified in worship. “I don’t want this to be a white thing, or a black thing, but a God thing.” As of right now Rev. Drum is a part time Chaplain, but would love to become full time eventually. Chapel Services are every Wednesday at noon. Rev. Drum will be speaking at a majority of these services. There will be other ministries that will be speaking during the service times as well. Rev. Drum is a very open, compassionate, and understanding man. Please feel free to stop by during office hours to get acquainted with him. His office is located across from the cafeteria in the religious life office. •h'*> O'.’5 Professor Drum, Chaplin North Carolina Wesleyan College Receives ^ $ 1 Million Gift For Science labs By Susan Best, Director of Development Sports 4-5 Rocky Mount, N.C. g North Carolina Wesleyan College has received a gift of $ 1 million from an anonymous donor for the purpose of upgrading its science laboratories, Dr. Ian Newbould, Wesleyan’s president, announced today. * • “This gift is as thoughtful as it is generous,” Newbould said, “ft is a vote of confidence in our excellent iships, & Tobs 7 faculty and in our students, ft is a transformational gift that will enable us to be at the forefi-ont of scientific technology. urnalism 8 “Upgrades that we will be able to make in our science laboratories will tremendously enhance our science offerings. We will be able to train our students on the most up-to-date equipment, and our new capabilities in science instruction and learning will no doubt enhance our recruitment of students interested in science.” , Wesleyan currently offers bachelor degrees in several scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, environmental science, and premedicine. Laboratory improvements are expected to benefit students in all of these disciplines, as well as students in education. The Colleges science laboratories are housed in the Gravely Science Building, part of a three-building complex at the center of campus. Thomas A. Betts, Jr., chairman of Wesleyan’s board of trustees, said, “Obviously, we are pleased with this gift and what it will purchase for the college. However, the fact that someone has invested one million dollars in Wesleyan validates that what we do each and learns of value. We provide a good and usefiil service, and this gift will provide the momentum to attract other meaningftil gifts. The donor is a caring and generous person that understands the value of a good education, and a person that is committed to making a difference in our students lives. With support like this, we will become a better college sooner.” Newbould said plans for laboratory renovation will begin immediately.
