^Editor’s Corner
VoCume XQX, numSer
Please allow me to introduce
myself; My name is Ron Fitzwater;
I am a sophomore and an English
Major. I am also a bit older than
your “Traditional” Traditional
Student. I mention this only to set
you up for my up-coming sales
pitch.
If you are a faithful reader of The
Decree, you will see some very
obvious changes over the next few
issues. Not the least of which is the
installation of yours truly as Editor-
in-Chief, as well as some cosmetic
and content changes. For those
of you who are first-time readers,
welcome. What you will not see
is any decline in the objectivity,
honesty and integrity for which we
here at the paper pride ourselves.
Now to the old thing; As
mentioned above i am older than
most traditional students. I returned
to school following a lengthy military
career and now through Divine
provenance. Karma, or just plain
fate I find myself in this my present
position as your Editor-In-Chief. I
find in this job several problems
unique to an older student, the
main one being that I may not be in
touch with the issues that affect you
the traditional student.
Editor-in-Chief:
Ron Fitzwater
To solve this problem, I need you.
I need your input, your opinions,
and your time. I need to know what
you find important, what you want
to know about, and what you think
is a waste of time to write about.
I ask that you send me e-
maii about the topics you want
to read about. Send me poetry,
stories, shout outs, dedications,
remembrances and anything else
you feel is important for your fellow
students to know.
In short, I want you to make this
your paper, reporting the news you
want to hear about, as it has always
Code of Ethics
Preamble
Members of the Society of Professional Journalists

justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of
the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth
and providing a fair and comprehensive account of
events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all
medias and specialties strive to serve the public with
thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity
is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility.
Principles
Members of the Society share a dedication to ethical
behavior and adopt this code to declare the Society's
principles and standards of practice:

been intended. Otherwise, you will
be stuck reading about what the
staff feels is important, and nothing
more.
My promise to you, the reader,
is that my staff and I will be fair in
the presentation of the facts. I will
not be biased in what gets printed,
whether I agree with the point of
view presented or not. You will
not be force fed only one side of
any issue. We will find ways to
present various points of view. I will
welcome any rebuttal or comment
on any story that runs in the
Decree. Please use tact and know
your facts if you comment, because
your comments will get printed.
It is my sincere hope that
my tenure here, as the head of
your school paper, will be found
acceptable by you, the reader. I
am here to work for you, so don’t
be shy—let me know what you think
from time to time. Together we can
keep the Decree, “of, by, and for
the Wesleyan community”.
Finally, I would like to thank Kim
Noble for her hard work and her
dedication to this publication. Her
confident and professional style
of leadership has left some big
shoes to fill. It has been my distinct
pleasure to work with her over the
past year and I wish her all the best
of possible futures. Thank you,
Kim.
In closing, let me again extend
a blanket invitation to the students
and faculty to submit anything
you feel important enough to
print. Everything submitted will be
given equal consideration for all
upcoming issues.
