AMCO NEWS Vol. XDC No. 6 Adams-Millis Corporation June, 1961 KERNERSVILLE HOSIERY DERBY GETS UNDERWAY 7 UUl HiiiiiUiiiiiUi The Hosiery Derby is underway at Kernersville. Knitters and fixers of Plant #4 are playing the horses at the races; bets are not made, but considerable interest is shown in the derby. Horses numbered to represent the sets of knitting machines were placed at the starting line together. They are advanced on percentages of first quality production for the knit ters and fixers on all three shifts. The number of each horse corresponds to the n\amber of a set of machines. As the results are known each week, the horses are advanced or moved back according to the overall quality per centage of all three shifts for each set of machines. Since the horse rep resenting each set is advanced on the basis of overall quality percentage for the set, teamwork effort is required for all three knitters and all three fixers on the machines. Each knitter and fixer consequently makes a greater effort to keep the machines operating properly. Knitters and fixers have displayed keen interest in the Derby. Each week, the number of the set of ma chines with the best percentage is posted in the Winner Circle. The next week, he advances to the 1st week circle with the winner of the new week going in the Winner Circle. From the 1st week circle, the horse advances the following week to the 2nd week circle. He is then dropped from the results until being declared winner again. Keen competition has developed throughout the department. Those al ready in the Winner Circle are trying, like the horses, to stay in the lead. Those behind are giving their best team efforts to improve their quality.
