C. B. Owens MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR On June 8, 1928, about the time Adams -Millis Corporation was formed and the Pointer Hosiery Mill became apart of Adams-Millis, a young man who had been working in Greensboro was employed in the finishing room as a yanker. Because his Greensboro em ployer wanted C. B. Owens to move to Greensboro and C. B. wanted to continue to live in High Point, he gave up his job with The Greensboro Loom Reed Company. His first job with Adam-Millis was yanking, a process which shaped the top part (welt) of the hose after the stockings had been boarded. Yank ing was discontinued about a year later and C. B. was transferred to the Boarding Department as a boarder. In 1935, he was placed in charge of the second shift of the boarders. When Adams-Millis received its first government contract in 1935, C. B. Owens was made assistant fore man of the first shift in the boarding room; and in July of 1944, he was promoted to supervisor of the Board ing and Dyeing Department. As the department grew, the Dye Department was made a separate division and C.B. remained in charge of the Boarding Department. When the Greige Goods Depart ment of the Grimes Street plant was moved to English Street in 1959, C.B. was placed in charge of finishing operations at the Grimes Street plant. C. B. Owens was born in David son County, near Southmont. He at tended Southmont and High Point Schools. He is married to the former Miss Beulah Snyder. They are active members of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church where Mr. Owens is a member of the Board of Deacons and superintendent of the Junior Depart ment of the Sunday School. They have three children: Mrs. Janette Newton, of High Point; Phillip, who graduated with the highest scholastic rating at High Point High School this year and has been awarded a scholarship at the University of North Carolina; and Allen, who is a student at Northeast Junior High School. C. B. lists his hobbies as bowling and fishing. A son, Joe A. Rake straw, Jr. , was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rake- straw on May 22, 1961. Mrs. Rake- straw (Mary) is a knitter of Plant #1. A son, Jesse A. Jones, Jr. , was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse A. Jones on June 12, 1961. Mrs. Jones (Edythe) is employed in the Finishing Depart ment of the Pointer and Jesse is em ployed in the Shipping Department of Plant #1. A son, Tony Frank Rich, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rich on June 6, 1961. Frank is a fixer in Plant #6. A daughter, Deborah Lynn, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Ward on May 26, 1961. Mrs. Ward(Martha) is a clipper of Plant #1. A daughter, Donna Jean, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Todd on May 18, 1961. Mrs. Todd (Mildred) is em ployed in the Seaming Department of Plant #1. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Todd on May 15, 1961. Mrs. Todd (Gladys) is a knitter of Plant #1.
