ACCIDENT PREVENTION AWARDS PRESENTED Left to right, John R. Bulla, in spector for the North Carolina De partment of Labor, Walter Webb, chairman of the Safety Committee of Plant One, Walter Voncannon, superintendent of plant seven, Frank Crane, Commissioner of Labor of North Carolina, Rufus James, chair man of the Safety Committee of Plant F our. Plants four and seven have been awarded the Accident Prevention Cer tificate in recognition of their out standing safety records for the year 1961. The awards were made jointly by the North Carolina Department of Labor and the United States Department of Labor. Plant seven was awarded the fourth year ribbon to be attached to its present certificate and plant four was awarded the first year cer tificate . Frank Crane, Commissioner of Labor of North Carolina presented the awards at the annual Safety Awards luncheon sponsored by the High Point Chamber of Commerce and Piedmont Associated Industries. Employee s of plant seven qualified for the fourth year award by working four consecutive years without a lost time accident. Since November 30, 1957, they have worked over 2, 500, 000 man hours without a lost time injury. This has been accomplished by the continued efforts of all employees in practicing safe working habits. Last year when he was appointed chairman of the Safety Committee in plant four, Rufus James announced his goal for the year 1961 to be a 25% reduction in accident frequency and under his direction, plant four ex ceeded the goal and qualified for the first year certificate. The experience for the first five months of 1962 very clearly predicts a second year ribbon for the Kernersville plant. Plant One has also shown sub stantial reduction in lost time in juries during 1962 and should quali fy for the Accident Prevention award this year. 3 -
