SUPERVISORS HEAR SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE O. Frank Griffith, Jr. (standing, far left), safety representative of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, met recently with supervisor s of Plants #1, §2, #7 and Southern Die Casting for a discussion on communicating safety and the values of investigating and properly reporting accidents. He stated that the primary purpose of investigating an accident is to make the necessary reports so that: 1. Proper and correct reports may be filed with the insurance company and the Industrial Com mission; 2. The cause of the accident can be determined; and 3. Corrective measures and preventive action can be deter mined and applied. MATERIAL HANDLERS ALSO ADVISED Griffith also spoke to the materi als handlers of Adams-Millis plants on the subject of back and muscle strains, emphasizing that in order to lift properly, the muscles of the legs and arms--not the back and stomach- should be used; when this method is employed, strains are virtually elimi nated. -18-
