r. D. BETENBAUGH, FIXER, AND JOE BULLARD MACHINIST, RETIRE W. D. BETENBAUGH After rounding out fifty years of hosiery mill employment, thirty-eight of which were with Adams-Millis Cor poration, W. D. Betenbaugh retired from the Knitting Department of Plant #1 on December 31. Bill was born in Union County, S. C. , and trained as a knitter and fixer in the town of Union. He later moved to North Carolina and in December of 1924, secured employ ment as a fixer for Adams-Millis. During his many years in the Knitting Department, the quality of maintenance of his machines was outstanding and he was admired throughout the depart ment for his immaculate appearance, even at the end of an eight-hour shift of hard work at his machines. In 1926, Bill married Miss Mamie Foster of Asheboro, and of this mar riage two childrenwere born: W. D. ,Jr. who is an upholsterer for Swaim Up holstery of High Point; andMrs. Betty Auman who lives on Raw ley Farm Road and was formerly employed in Plant #7. The Betenbaughs live at 908 Carter Street in High Point and attend Arch dale Methodist Church. JOSEPH. C. BULLARD Joseph C, Bullard, who has been employed in the machine shop for almost thirty years, retired Decem ber 31 on the basis of age. Born and reared near Randleman, N. C. , Joe was employed at the old Stehli Silk Mill as night foreman in the machine shop for eleven years. Up on learning that the Stehli Mill would close, he sought employment else- where, and, in February of 1933, came to. Adams-Millis where he remained until his retirement. In May of 1915, he married Miss Minnie Allred, also of Randleman. They now live on Route #1, Climax, N. C., in the oldhome place of Joe's grandparents, and attend the Red Cross Baptist Church of Climax which was built on land donated to the church by Joe. The Bullards have four children: Clyde, of Liberty, N. C. ; John, of High Point; Charles Jackson, a brick contractor of Asheboro; and Mrs. Roy Hilton, also of High Point. An ounce of enterprise is worth a pound of privilege. - -Frederic R. Marvin.
