JIM LEWIS ASSIGNED NEW DUTIES Jim Lewis, an employee of Adams- Millis since 1917. is being assignednew duties effective April 1. He will leave the hosiery division and will be sales representative for the machine shop. Jim started working in the boarding department of the High Point Hosiery Mill when he was in knee pants. Soon after quitting school, he realized a boy needed more than an elementary educa tion to progress in industry. He con tinued working ten hours each day and completed his high school education attending night school. Lewis interrupted his hosiery ex perience in 1923 when with another young man he went to California and worked on a ranch and in a woolen mill for about six months. He returned to High Point shortly and in addition to boarding socks on the old wooden boards he worked as a lot boy in the Finishing Room. He availed himself of every opportunity to learn more about the hos iery business and soon after Adams- Millis started the manufacture of ladies' full fashioned hosiery Jim was trans ferred to the shipping department of plant seven. His next promotion was to that of shipping clerk. In 1930 he was up in the hosiery business. The father of two children, Lewis resides at 526 E. Farriss Avenue in High Point. Mrs. Lewis is a former employee of plant seven and their daughter, Mrs. Colleen Davis, is employed in the cost department of the main office. Their son, James, Jr. is employed with Hennis Motor Lines. Jim's greatest delight now is the time he spends with his four grandsons. Twenty-Five Years of Service Pauline McLean Pairer Plant #4 Retired Employee Succumbs to Illness Ernest E. Shields, retired employee of Plant #4, died March 2, 1963. He had been in declining health for a year and critically ill a week. Mr. Shields retired as a sweeper promoted to superintendentof the Finishing®*^ June 28, 1957, Department.
