Plant #8: Barney E. Ferguson and Christine Tucker were married Friday evening, September 18, at Archdale Nazarene Church. Barney is employed in the Coating Department of Mac/Netic Tape. We wish for them a long and happy life together! Joyce Skeen is back with us again after being out during the summer. . . picking beans instead of cotton. Glad to have her back. We also extend a hearty welcome to Nellie Adams and Joyce Whitt. Welcome to the club! ! Fred had a birthday this month. She still says she's only twenty, but who believes her. . .Maybe she just likes that number. We would like for Warren to know if the "viddles" get too good down at Mom's everyday, he can always stay at the plant and eat an "ole" sandwich like everybody else does. We hope Jean Barbee, who is out sick, will soon be well and back with us. Members of the golf committee at MAC Panel are, left to right: Jim Davis, Ron Bundy, Joe Prosch and Bill Williams. MAC Panel employees have been playing over the Blair Park course during the summer and fall. Their schedules for their tournament are made out by the committee above. - 15 Fire Chief Clark Cites Fire Hazards Any fireman can tell you it's actually a fact that a clean house sel dom burns. It's just as true that a clean stove or furnace seldom burns up the house. "Dirty, defective heating and cooking equipment cause the deadliest dwelling fires, " says Kernersville's Fire Chief Ollie Clark. According to National Fire Protection Association studies, they take about 2,000 lives yearly in this country, and destroy or damage about 1,500 homes each week. "So, " continued Chief Clark, "the goal of the Clean-up Campaign--more fire safety in our homes--calls for thorough cleaning and check-up of stoves, furnaces, portable heaters, chimneys and flues. " Now is an excellent time to have heating equipment serviced and re paired, he points out, before you let it go and get caught by the next cold snap of this fall. It could be time to check the chimney, too--particularly important if you burn wood or coal. And a clean, tight chimney means fuel sav ings as well as fire safety. If you have an exhaust fan and duct over your kitchen stove, how long since it has had the greasy resi due removed? Above all, make sure that any kerosene or oil room heaters are clean and in sound working condition before you put them away for the season. A dirty, defective one is about as dangerous an object as you can have in your home. Fire Chief Clark is shipping clerk of Adams-Millis Corporation's Plant #4 in Kernersville.
