ETHEL FITTS RETIRES
WITH THIRTY-NINE YEARS
On January 14, 1966, Ethel E.
Fitts, timekeeper in the Finishing
Department of Plant #1, punched her
time card for the last time. After
more than thirty-nine years of con
tinuous service with Adams-Millis
Corporation, she began a well-
deserved retirement.
Ethel was born in Warren County,
North Carolina, but lived in Danville,
Virginia, for several years before
returning to North Carolina and mar
rying David H. Fitts, who had already
been working at Adams-Millis for a
year. She went to work at the Grimes
Street plant on August 17, 1926. She
paired and worked with samples for a
while before moving into the plant
office to take over a variety of duties--
handling orders and correspondence,
keeping time and assisting in the ship
ping office. For many years, her
"Adams-Millis number two" was rec
ognized by everyone who had occasion
to make frequent telephone calls to
that plant.
When the Grimes Street plant was
consolidated with the English Road
plant in 1959, Ethel transferred to the
Planning Department and later began
timekeeping in the Finishing Depart
ment. Her husband, Dave, is still
employed in the Knitting Department
of Plant #1, and her sister, Mabel
Ellis, works in the Kernersville finish
ing plant.
Ethel and Dave live at 2503 East
Lexington Avenue in High Point and
are members of Montlieu Avenue
Methodist Church.
Four office employees were recog
nized with gifts of watches at the Christ
mas party. Harry Bell, vice president;
Etta York, Order Department; Forrest
Jones, head of the Sample Department;
and Bill Williams, comptroller, com
pleted their twenty-fifth year with the
company last year.
