DELIA TOWNSEND AND ORPHA POPE RETIRE After twenty-six years of con tinuous service with the Knit-Sox Division in Hickory, Delia Townsend, inspector, retired April 14 on the basis of age. She celebrated her 65th birthday on February 26, complete with a dinner, an orchid and gifts, pre sented by her friends. And, upon the occasion of her retirement, her co workers presented her with drapes for her den. Mrs. Townsend's hobbies are growing flowers and making quilts-- and she hopes to do a lot of both while enjoying her retirement. Orpha L. Pope, pairer of Plant #3, has retired on the basis of age; she had been employed by Adams- Millis Corporation for twenty-four years. As a young single girl, her first public work was with Hanes Knitting Company where she worked as a seam- er for five years before her marriage. Later, she came to Adams-Millis seek ing work and was given an opportunity to learn to pair socks. She has spent her entire hosiery career in the Pair ing Departme nt with a record of good quality work. Mrs, Pope was born and reared near Union Cross in Forsyth County. Her husband is a progressive farmer and they reside in the Sedge Garden Community. The Popes have four daughters, three of whom are former employees of Reynolds Tobacco Company. One is now a secretary there; and one son. Dr. Billy Pope, is a counselor at High Point College. Mr. and Mrs. Pope are active members of the Sedge Garden Method ist Church. Certificate of Symbol of Excellence, which was presented with formal ceremonies at a luncheon in High Point on April 24. Mr. Myron Graham, Sears national merchandise manager for boys’ and students'apparel, and Mr. Robert Gorenflo, boys' hosiery and underwear buyer, made the pres entation. The award was given to Adams- Millis Corporation in recognition of the outstanding performance of its management and employees in manu facturing superior quality products for Sears during the past year.
