Employed in 1952, Ivlary has inspected and turned ladies' nylon hosiery and inspected, paired, folded and packaged panty hose. Also, she worked with the company for eight years prior to 1940 as a full fashioned hosiery inspector. Mary Burnette Hamlet was born ,1 Lewisburg in Franklin County, N,C. and attended Sandy Creek School. After leaving school, she remained on her father's farm until 1922 when she mar ried J. James Hamlet, also of Frank lin County, and they moved to a farm of their own nearby. In 1926, there was a season or two of poor crops, and Mary and Jim came to High Point, where they had relatives, to seek employment. Jim found work in the boarding department of Adams- Millis Corporation's ladies' hosiery division and Mary stayed at home to care for the family. After a short re turn trip to their farm, the Hamlets returned to High Point; Jim resumed his work in the boarding room (and later in the pairing department, where he remained until taking other employ ment in 1939) and Mary went to work in the inspecting department. Due to the shortage of work in 1940, she left Adams-Millis and found employment in other hosiery plants in High Point. She returned to Adams-Millis in 1952 and has worked continuously since that time. In the Hamlet family, there are two sons and three daughters. Ray, of High Point, and James, of Char lotte, are both self-employed. One daughter, Ruth Mullins, is a former employee of the main office and is now a resident of Catawba, N. C. Another daughter, Mrs. Beanie Underwood, lives in Wadesboro; and the third daughter, Mrs. Mollie Cunningham, lives in Glenola. There are twelve grandchildren and one great grand child. They visit often in the Hamlet home at 1417 Valley Ridge Drive in High Point. When asked what her plans for re tirement were, Mary replied, "Just to take it easy. " She likes to fish and, of course, plans to work a great deal of that into her leisure time. "Dear, I hope you reach the |ob safely."
