Forms Revised Thousands of North Carolina tax payers who have, in the past, filed the simple card form 1040-A to report their Federal income tax, will be sur prised this year when they receive a multi-page booklet containing various tax forms and schedules instead of the single form 1040-A. The 1040-A has been discarded by IRS. Now, every taxpayer will receive a tax package containing various forms to enable him to list itemized deduc tions and claim other tax credits, etc. if he is entitled to them. J. E. Wall, District Director of IRS, emphasized that taxpayers who have no itemized deductions to claim or income other than wages to report or tax credits to list, should not be confused by the large package of forms they receive. In such cases. Wall said, the taxpayer needs only to file the single page form 1040 contained in the package and compute his tax from the tables, or use the standard deduc tion, as in the past, and discard the balance of the package. Wall said that schedules not re quired by taxpayers should not be at tached to the return. He said that the average taxpayer will need to file only two or three of the schedules included, but they should be attached in proper sequence to insure rapid processing. Wall expects close to two million individual tax returns to be filed by North Carolinians this year. “Why can’t you hide behind the paper in the morning like other husbands do?” 7 -
