-7- Quality control is always of great importance at Adams-Millis. Gladys Rogers, of the Knitting Department, and Helen Sanders, of the Seaming Department, help keep the quality of all Plant #1 goods at a high level by running constant checks on production through tests and inspections of random samples of each of the knitters' and seamers' lots. They work with the operators to locate and elimi nate any problems they find so that all of the plant's production will be as consistently high in quality as possible. The quality of socks produced in the knitting de partment of Plant #1 is checked by Gladys Rogers, Quality Control. SUI^PLy Plant #l's central Supply Room carries everything needed in the plant. The Supply Room is located on the knitting floor and is run by Charlie Maness. Helen Mason and Ben Hooks go over a production report in the Office. The Plant #1 Office includes Ben Hooks, Plant Manager, and Helen Mason, his assistant. The Office is the information center for the plant, maintaining all of the records of the plant's opera tion. Coordination of all efforts of Plant #1 with the corporate office and the other plants takes place in the Office. They are responsible for the pro duction of the entire plant and the administration of all company policies and regulations at Plant #1. During World War H, many non-swimmers at the Naval Training Stations were required to take swimming lessons nightly after a full day of drill ing until they became qualified swimmers. One boy was really getting nowhere, and the chief in charge of instructing him asked, "What's the matter? Why can't you swim? Haven't you got any water in Kentucky?" After a short blank stare, the recruit replied, "Yes, chief—we have air, too, but I can't fly!" SUMMER—the time of the year when the highway authorities close the regular roads and open up the detours.
