He urged each plant to give greater attention to good housekeeping and to strive to win the Housekeeping Award in the future. The 1979 Sears Symbol of Excellence Award was pre sented to Adams-Millis Ho siery Company at a cere mony held in the Corporate Office recently. Fred Suter, Hosiery and Underwear Buyer for Department 640 of Sears, and his assistant, Vince Crawford, were pre sent to make the presenta tion. R.M. Bundy, Jr., Presi dent of Adams-Millis Hos iery Company, accepted the Award. Those present at the cere mony included the Plant Managers and representa tive employees from each of the Adams-Millis plants which manufacture hosiery products for Sears. Mr. Suter said in his remarks the recipients of the Award are selected after a committee surveys retail stores and catalog order plants and also analyzes reports from Sears’ own quality control laboratories. This year, he added, only some 4% of the approxi mately 12,000 suppliers to Sears will be honored with the Award. Adams-MUlis is one of eleven suppliers who have received the Award for fourteen consecutive years. In accepting the Award, Mr. Bundy said that it is the employees of Adams-Millis who are responsible for its receipt. He made special recognition of Robert P. Grant, Senior Vice-President of Sales and Merchandising for Adams-Millis Hosiery Company, and his contribu tion to the success of the Sears Program. Adams-Millis Corporation is the parent company of the Hosiery Division and also includes TexElastic Corpora tion, a major manufacturer of covered elastic yams. The Corporation has North Caro lina plants in High Point,- Kemersville, Mt. Airy, Hickory, Raeford and Arch dale and in Edmond, Okla homa. Gaston Hodges, Manager of Plant #2, Mt. Office Allen C. Pearman Husband of Eunice Pearman Plant #3 at Plant No. 11 Mary Harvey, who as the employee with the longest work record, was selected to cut the opening ribbon at Plant #11 in Mt. Airy, has been with Adams-Millis 35 years. She worked at Plant #2 previously and has worked in various depart ments. Her hobbies include cross-stitching and baking, and enjoying her two grand sons. Her husband, Dallas, works in Boarding at Plant #11 and has been with Adams-Millis 27 years. A Batty Stawart Betty Stewart died unex pectedly November 11, 1979. She was an operator at TexElastic in Raeford and is siu*vived by her husband, Ralph, and two sons, Ralph, Jr. and Jimmy. Patty Gail McCann Daughter of Richard McCann Plant #20 Coy W. HighfiU Plant #7, High Point Employees Activities Day in Raeford Approximately 375 per sons, including employees and their families, were pre sent for an employee activi ties day at TexEla^ic Cor poration'in Raeford. The event was held on the company grounds at the rear of the plant and activities included bingo, cake walks, and horseshoe pitching for the adults, while the children enjoyed competition at darts, “fishing,” and bean bag tossing. The highlight of the day was a barbecue and chicken dinner served on the grounds.
