Williams Celebrates
60 Years Service
With Adams-Millis
When Amelia Williams first
sought a job there were not
i^n\ of them around. She was
16years old and it was 1933 in
the height of America’s Great
Depression.
“I was lucky to get a job
then,” Williams said recently
as she took a few minutes out
horn her knitting job in Adams-
Millis’ Drexel Knitting Plant.
That first job was putting
toj)S on the transfer, a part of
the sock knitting proce,ss then.
[Since then she has
continued a long career - 60
years - in the Knitting De
partment in Drexel. She cele-
b|ited 60 years with the com-

was honored recently for her
career.
'“I’ve enjoyed working
here,” said Williams. “I be
lieve in working, not standing
around talking.”
She has seen a multitude of
changes during her years with
Adams-Millis - both style and
technological - and admits it
has been frustrating at times.
“Getting a new style to work
right wasn’t always easy,” she
said.
But perseverance was a
strong point with her and
Williams said she wouldn’t
change anything in her career
if she had it to do over again.
She still operates about 40 knit
ting machines during her shift
at Drexel.
Williams has no idea about
how many dozens of socks she
has knitted during her 60years
with the company but the num
ber would be enormous.
“She certainly has been an
excellent worker,” said Plant
Manager Charles McClung.
“Amelia has demonstrated a

some help in solving a prob

industrial engineers.
Jena Williams of Greens
boro and Lenita Daniels of
Columbia, S.C., are seniors in
industrial engineering at N.C.
A&T State University in
Greensboro and they are al
ready at work on a materials
handling problem in the fin
ishing operations in Kern-
ersville.
“We’re finding out how the
process works,” Williams said.
“Then we have to figure out
how to fix the problem.”
The two are assigned to
Harold Mooney, industrial
engineer at Kernersville Fin
ishing. Plant Manager Robert
Gales said the project was
suggested al an “Employee
Roundtable” at the plant.
“The situation they are
working on is one that has
grown progressively worse over
the past three years,” Mooney-
said. “It has been hard to
